Does anyone know if she did that in real life? Cuz that didn't seem like acting to me. Not sure, but she did start an interracial theatre company in New York City in 1968. I don't know which answer would make the scene better

This is an amazing scene too. Until the show got eaten by Urkel, it really was saying something at a time when we needed to hear. Same with Fresh Prince.

Were the very talented actors of this show not upset the show turned into a Sci-fi type of thing with a side character? Or were they just happy the show was doing well? Well almost everyone seemed to be fine with the checks clearing, not that I blame them. Mother Winslow was written out, though that might have just been a retirement thing. The original Harriet did leave because of the direction, which makes sense, as the show was written for her in the first place. People tend to forget that Family Matters was a spin-off of Perfect Strangers. Harriette worked as the elevator operator for the newspaper the main characters worked at. Carl was introduced as well. As The Cosby Show was making record numbers for NBC, ABC wanted a piece of that and spun the characters off into their own show. While The Cosby Show was about a white-collar black family (husband is a doctor, wife is a lawyer), Family Matters went more blue-collar with Carl as a beat cop. Of course, that whole thing went out the window when the show started to focus on Steve Urkel.

I even remember a throwaway joke where Balki told Larry they were gonna help Harriet move into their apartment building, then like 4 episodes later Carl was introduced. Also, Reginald VelJohnson was cast as Carl completely off of Die Hard.
