I haven’t been very interested in this but that’s a great trailer. I’m gonna have to look out for this one.

They’re teasing a potentially very unsettling origin into Joker. As much as I enjoy the variations of the character that don’t have a concrete backstory, I’m interested in seeing how they pull this off.

And like I said in the Zack Snyder thread, I don’t care if they take all sorts of liberties with Joker here because it’s clearly it’s own thing. And really, they could easily pull off an ending that makes you question if the story you were just told was “real” or if it was just bullshit Joker was making up.

From the trailer it seems like we’re not getting a hero moment out of him becoming Joker. Its not a happy thing. This is a good hearted dude that tried and tried but succumbed to the evils around him. There’s potential for a really messed up and sad arc. Now tell me if Batman shows up pleaseeeee I am guessing Bruce is the child he makes "smile"

Trailer looks decent. Still not super hyped for it though. Randomly: I remember watching an indy/fan made version of a Red Hood/Joker/Batman movie that used “Smile” by Nat King Cole in it like 15 years ago. It was pretty good. It’s called Patient J and I’m reasonably certain that it’s still on DailyMotion somewhere.
This one looks better than whatever the hell Jared Leto was going for at least.

Right, because Dark Knight Joker was full of BS, but he was so demented and scary that you wondered what could be true or not. He is one of those properties that can be tweaked but still feel true depending on the writer, there’s multiple Jokers that work for different reasons (much like his rival).

Now tell me if Batman shows up pleaseeeee I believe the entire concept of the movie is that this Joker exists in a world without Batman, though I'm unsure if that's the official line or not.

Well considering Thomas Wayne is still alive and shown in the trailer Batman is still a child or unborn...I have a feeling he is the child that he makes "smile"

Very unsettling. Trailer definitely makes you think it's inspired by other movies about psychos (Taxi Driver, King of Comedy, and,uh, Psycho) which makes sense if you go with the idea that the Joker bullshits about his true 'origin'.

I'm good with that.

Theres a set photo from a few months ago that calls that into question and raises even more questions. Lol. I won’t say for spoilers but it’ll be crazy to see I hope that alittle bit of the Joker anti-hero stuff is in his head. Like he thinks everyone loves him now and can’t wait to see what he does next. I’m glad they’re doing something like this. It feels so visually and thematically different. I would hate to see Comic movies boiled down to “Its a comic book so it has to be fun!” Thats like saying every video game should look like Mario Brothers.

The trailer felt like a combination of "Taxi Driver" and "The King of Comedy," which is not at all what I thought I'd ever say for a DC Comics movie. But I'm totally on board with this. It has all the grittiness and nastiness that a Joker origin story should have. Watching a man slowly lose his grip on sanity and reality shouldn't be a light-hearted or colorful romp, it should be dark and ugly, and that's exactly the vibe I got from watching the trailer.

Comic book villain origin by way of 70s era cinematic deconstruction is one of the more interesting potential takes I've seen.
It already feels like what a comic book film might have looked like had it been made in the New Hollywood era.

Was already pretty onboard for it. But totally sold now. Can't wait.
