Well my mind is of 2 thoughts
1. He should have never been fired in the 1st place because Mella is not the same without him. It's a good pairing that makes her a better heel and him as an absolute jobber is a must
2. As I said before as a jobber and a goober you need him. However, kill all that him fighting against women. Let him just manage Carmella and do the occasional bump when he tries to interfere.
As a personality he works but they have him do too much. Hell, i'd put him on 205 Live at this Mella pairing ends when she drops the belt.

Don’t worry, if they hire somebody else, I’m sure there will be complainers for them, too. Maybe even the OP!

He's a great heater for Carmella because she is absolutely terrible on her own.
He's a good worker, and a solid promo.

The problem is we didn't get James Ellsworth back, we got "Pretty Jimmy Dream", who he is on the indie scene. And Pretty Jimmy Dream is a generic heel wrestler you see at the lowest levels of the independent wrestling, the kind of guy you'd see at a County Fair wrestling show. He was fully in that mode on Tuesday, and it felt very out-of-tone for WWE, very small-time. Add into that he had several sloppy looking spots that could be considered botches if you were very picky and it's not looking great for him right now.
One thing that really bugs me: "Nobody is ready for Ellsworth". I'm getting worked by that, of course, but I also think it was a bad idea to muddy that catchphrase even a little bit.
WWE always likes to say they give the fans what they want. What fans wanted Asuka's post-Wrestlemania feud to be with James Ellsworth?

This isn't a mystery. Ellsworth was rehired because Carmella is terrible. I was baffled as to why he was released in the first place given Carmella still had MITB at the time and there was no reason for her to get rid of him. I figured she'd cut bait with him after he either screwed up her MITB cash in or after he did something to cost her the title. The Becky thing makes sense. That does mean Asuka is jobbing twice to Carmella however, which is just beyond idiocy.
Yeah. Given Carmella still can't get heat on her own, they probably thought they had to do something. Hopefully it ends soon.

I really wish Ellsworth was appreciated more, his mic work and little character inflections are actually lost on a lot of guys on the roster currently. He gets wrestling, he gets what he is, and that's why he got rehired, he's solid and like Carmella or not about 80% of her whole point died when she didn't have him anymore.
I still really wish Ellsworth would become a more Harvey Whippleman type manager. I would love to see him be the sidekick to a Lars Sullivan, both look genetically weird, difference is Sullivan could kill you. Imagine James constantly sicking Lars on people who rub him the wrong way. It would be brilliant.

This seems like the textbook "sometimes, Vince McMahon does things just to be nice" hiring out there.
Really, Ellsworth being rehired was a bad move from a "wrestling" standpoint, but a great move from a WWE standpoint in the "they made $2.5 billion in the TV deal and ungodly amounts in their stock price, so the first thing WWE did was rehire the last guy they fired".
A move like Ellsworth's rehiring's great in that regard, because it represents WWE being willing to take their new financial windfall and do right by the talent.

I hope Ellsworth stays on WWE payroll, in some fashion, for the rest of his career.

Ellsworth has been one of the top trending characters on the roster, with his interactions with Asuka. WWE would be stupid to not capitalize on that. I don’t get the hate whatsoever. People complain that there aren’t any managers and it’s a dying art and then you have James Ellsworth handling that role perfectly. I don’t get the negativity. I’m glad he’s got a job.

I imagine they would have prefer giving Carmella a female bodyguard but I am not sure there is anybody suitable to the role on Smackdown that is actually ready for live TV.

It's typical WWE, it's the right decision, he helps Carmella and can add to a show. It just falls down on the actual booking, you just see glimpses of what it could be.
