Two comments: 1.) Yeah, I didn't say Gallo's an easy guy to work with. All's I meant was he'd look and act appropriately creepy for the role of the Joker. 2.) If the idea of Harley Quinn giving a little of the old...y'know...doesn't make you want to see the movie, I'd say there's something wrong with you! I was only joking. I like to make gags on past film roles. Like once on an old movie board when the news that Ewan McGregor was cast as Obi-Wan Kenobi I suggested Star Wars Ep1 should open with Obi-Wan being chased by Stormtroopers while he narrates 'Choose The Force, Choose a Lightsaber, Choose a ship that can do the Kessel run in 3 pacos'. Yeah, I generally know kidding when I read it. I just wanted to make a comment about Harley Quinn giving...y'know.

my prediction is the movie will be damn good except for Katie Holmes. I don't care if the guy's face doesn't look right. Seriously, if that's the best reason you can come up with that Heath Ledger shouldn't be Joker....i don't know. I guess they can't, you know, use prosthetics or anything to get the shape they want. I guess that level of technology doesn't exist yet.
People just need to sit back and enjoy it for what it is. We know Bale was great as Batman. Katie Holmes was awful. The directer did an outstanding job last time (sorry, I'm blanking on his name). So let's see how this one turns out.

I hope they have Harley Quinn in this Let's hope not. That character ruins and contradicts everything about The Joker. He has no patience for people, so why in the hell would he keep around some dimwit that constantly bothered him and botched his plans? She also steals his thunder, his spotlight, and makes him generally less dark which is a bad thing.

But who would play Harley Quinn, if she were cast? I'd think Brittany Murphy would be ACES (for the voice alone). The first name to come to my mind is Jennifer Tilly, but I'm not sure if that'd be a good choice

I don't wanna see a Harley Quinn either. She was GREAT on the animated series, but that's all I really need to see of her. ( Yeah I know they brought her into comics later) Unless it was a chick TRYING to be Harley who this Joker kills almost immediately.. THAT would be a dark Joker, and I'd dig that.
Ledger's face is wrong for Joker? Maybe, but um, makeup?

How do you NARROW someone's face with makeup alone? Prosthetics, maybe.
But to those of you who say looks aren't important in casting a lead for a superhero film.....I guess you come from the Brett Ratner school that says characters should look NOTHING like thier counterparts from the comics. Hence we get Vinny Jones in rubber arms as Juggernaut.
I never will understand that. I mean, ok.....according to youse guys, looks don't mean crap. So why not just cast Kevin James as the Joker? Or Will Smith?
Looks don't matter, so they'd be PERFECT according to some of you.

/\ I dunno man.... Heath Ledger may not look that much like the Joker, but neither did Caesar Romero without the make up. you're just nitpicking, how do you know how he'll look/act as the Joker before the film even comes out?
now had they cast Rosie O'Donnell as Cat Woman... that would be something to be frightened of.

I've always been of the mind that I don't really like to criticize casting choices until I actually see how it turns out. It doesn't really serve much purpose to me.
Nolan always does a good job casting and he knows what he wants. That's usually enough for me.

From what I've read people criticized Keaton when he was cast as Batman...
and now, he's considered one of the best to play the role.

Nicholson didn't look THAT much like Joker either, and I thought that was great casting. Yes you want em to resemble em.. but take Michael Clarke Duncan's Kingpin for example.. not exactly the spitting image of Romita's character, and I thought he did a great job.. or Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, I NEVER woulda thought of him, but it's an interesting choice.
Thought of another example, some are up in arms about Topher Grace as Eddie Brock since ol' Ed was a beefy dude.. I say if it does the character justice, I'll take an actor that can really sink their teeth into the role and be the guy who may not necessarily be straight off the page rather than someone who looks spot on is just going through the motions or has a terrible script.
I'll give you Vinnie Jones was bad casting, but it was bad MORE for the fact that his Juggernaut didn't have a whole helluva lot to do with that character before he was even given the role than his look, at least IMO.
Heck, an example I think of good casting that was wasted is Tommy Lee Jones as Two-Face, Here was a guy that coulda done well in a character that is AWESOME had they written him well.. instead they turn him over the top cartoony losing all the pathos of Harvey Dent's struggle with his dual nature, and Jones who coulda turned in a really good performance ends up having to just mug for the camera. Just a wasted opportunity there.

I didn't like the Nicholson Joker's look, though I agree he played the part OK. I agree that Two-Face was a monumental disappointment. It was waay over-the-top. Topher Grace looks good in the role, believe it or not. I dunno, I'll give ol' Heath a chance but he bothers me for some reason, most recently after reading an interview in which he admitted he never read Batman comics. It seemed very elitist, as if Heath thought he was too cool for comic-book school.

More often, people chosen for roles may not have been huge fans of the source material or similar works to begin with, but I don't necessarily think that should count against whether they can act the part or not....
