fantastic entertainment and an absolute blast, monster punching at it's best we all love mothra don't we yeah she ain't coming back, she sacrificed herself to give her BOYFRIEND her power, that's why he turned from blue to red! but the humans HAD an important port in the story with the ORCA, and i was actually invested in their story but we don't go and plonk ourselves in front of the biggest loudest screen for ants do we no we go and watch humongous animals go at each other and i was NOT disappointed! funny moment when ghidorah get's his three heads shoved into the building ..... larry curly and mo indeed the shot of mothra flying down mandibles curling out may be my best single shot of the entire year so far, but clever editing made me bloody jump out ma seat the next second of the scene! i want that as a poster i laughed when everyone in the cinema all left before the very end, and saw the stinger at the end and now i have to bloody see KONG ISLAND don't I LONG LIVE THE KING INDEED Pretty sure Godzilla went red because his radiation level went so high. Like, buildings were literally melting in his wake as he walked, he was giving off so much heat. Which brings me to something dumb I noticed: for the last 10 minutes or so, they keep making a point of Godzilla's radiation levels being off the charts, so they need to get away. So, as they're flying away, they're watching Godzilla basically explode... with the hatch door wide open. Like, the first thing I thought upon seeing that was "Congratulations! You all have cancer." Seriously, there's no way they were far enough away for the radiation waves to not hit them. I mean, they were far enough away from the atomic blast that healed Godzilla somehow, so, uh........SQUIRREL

I can just wave that away by saying they just had really good radiation shielding. The plane hatch being open is what kills my suspension of disbelief.

My suspension of disbelief is pretty hard to shake in these kinds of films. Like, technically, anyone even around Godzilla, during San Francisco for example, should have radiation poisoning. Hell, that was one of the big points in Gojira was that after his rampage survivors would be suffering from poisoning. At this point I just shrug and go back to watching kaiju throw each other through buildings and shovel more popcorn.

Yeah, Gojira was such an overt allegory for the atom bomb/Cold War arms race that it had to be made clear how even the survivors of the initial destruction were often still doomed. This new one seems to go more for kaiju as allegory for nature responding things like human-driven climate change in the form of natural disasters, which could have the same "you're still screwed even if you survive at first" weight to it, but it's clearly less fatalistic than the original 1954 film and wants to emphasize finding balance rather than facing an abjectly horrifying potential future.

Well to be fair. The movie does show that San Fransisco and Las Vegas (and presumably Honolulu) had become uninhabitable and abandoned after the events of the first film. Shown with nature taking them back. Like what happened to the city of Pripyat near Chernobyl.
But yeah they could of brought up radiation poisoning. If people in the film were looking for an excuse to eradicate the titans.

A metal hatch door isn't going to do anything against powerful radiation. I don't know what sort of radiation Godzilla is chucking put but as it's energy rather than charged particles it's most likely gamma.

I like how the dude which a nuclear weapon presumably with a massive yield had to get within yards of Godzilla to make it happen. They seriously could have just guessed his general location, set a timer, and beat feet as fast as possible.
