If they're already doing the overt babyface turn for Godzilla in this one, then where does that leave the next film, Godzilla/Kong? Is Kong going to be the bad guy in it or...oh.
They're going to team up by the end, aren't they?

They've said there will be a decisive winner between Kong and zilla. Though I wouldnt rule out a team up and one of them valiantly sacrifices itself. Which kinda makes me chuckle.

My story theory is that it will be similar to the 60’s King Ghidorah film. Rodan will emerge and wreck shit, which brings Godzilla out if the sea to fight him. Meanwhile King Ghidorah will emerge as an even greater World ending threat. The character played by 11 will have a psychic link to Mothra (like the Cosmo twins in the old movies) and at some point she will get Mothra to talk to Godzilla and Rodan to stop figthing each over and the three will team up to take on Ghidorah. Guessing Rodan and maybe Mothra will die trying to defeat Ghidorah.. Godzilla of course will stand tall at the end. The finale will take place in a major city .. New York, Tokyo, Beijing, London etc.. which will cause a lot of death and destruction. The humans end up thinking hero or not Godzilla is just too dangerous to be lurking in the seas.. so they need to think of a way to stop him. Setting up the Godzilla vs King Kong film. My theory anyway. I’m always wrong when predicting film plots. . I can even see them trying to use the logic of using Kong because, "He's got experience killing giant lizards".

There may be a big hint for who the team-up is against in KotM, if rumors are true. Google at your own risk.

My child brain had those three as the Super Best Monster Friends with Mothra coming and going depending on their overall alignment with the Earth. I also convinced myself that Gorosaurus was a bigger deal than he actually was... I think the conversation to feature him so prominently in Destroy All Monsters went something like: Honda: So besides our big names - Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah, Angurus and the Not the Momma Baby Dinosaur, what other monsters can we bring back for this? How about Ebirah? Tsuburaya: We only built half a suit for that, tore it's arms off and what the hell is he going to do, cheer them on from the ocean? Honda: How about Spiega and the mantis? Tsuburaya: Those props are on their last legs, we could probably get a couple of shots out of both of them before they turn to dust. Same with that Baragon suit we still have. I just wouldn't film it for very long. Honda: And Varan? Tsuburaya: That was 10 years ago. Do you understand how foam and latex work? I have a couple of small models of it we can insert some quick shots of. Oh, and I still have that old Manda snake. The legs have fallen off but we can use it a little. Honda: Oh, I got it! That octopus from King Kong Vs. Godzilla! Tsuburaya: That was a real octopus and you ate it after we completed shooting. How do you not remember that? Honda: Right, right. Okay, so...Kong and the Robot Kong are out, obviously. What about the giant walrus from Gora---wait, no, nevermind. Hey, you still have that generic dinosaur suit from the Kong film we just shot a couple months ago? Let's just use that.

What is it? {Spoiler}Destoroyah is rumored to be hinted at in a brief (possibly post-credit) scene. There was a plot leak that came out before the trailer, and seems to line up well with it.

Personally I think a lot of the older Godzilla movies are carried by the human drama, it is what makes them good (Like Fuji and Glenn, Serizawa and everyone in the first one). Good human characters and plots can create an effective avatar for the viewer to experience the hot monster action through.... But then you get ones like the first legendary Godzilla where they sacrifice the only compelling human character in the movie for the narrative and replace it with a bunch of character as bland as a room temperature glass of water (With a fairly bland monster for Godzilla to fight on top of it). So, to me, they shouldn't minimize the human characters in favor of the monsters, they just have to do a better job of remembering that they have to do character work on them too. If they can accomplish that the movie will probably be great, the poster certainly looks awesome.
On the subject of the trailer, it is sorta odd. And there is A LOT of Rodan in it. I haven't looked into the movie besides the trailer so I don't know what the monsters actually look like besides the brief shots here and there; the one I am most interested in is Mothra and if she can really have a place in such an apparently dark movie... Gosh I would hate to see Mothra die yet again, its always so sad.

I'd love to hear an argument that anything else in that movie was worse. (Besides the length of Cranston's screen time)
