I'm tired of remakes of movies but they just keep coming. They are going to remake The Hitcher. The original Hitcher is good enough. They should leave that classic old thriller alone.

This is because Hollywood by and large has no original ideas left.

I still think someone should remake The Touch Of Satan.
Hey, it couldn't be any worse than the original, right?

I heard someone was remaking Santa Clause Conquers the Martians.....if that helps with anyone wanting them to remake a bad movie and make it better.

See.....not all remakes are bad. When Hollywood remakes bad movies (not often enough) it's a good thing. But all too often, Hollywood remakes movies that were fine to begin with. Which is why we have three Texas Chainsaw Massacres, two FOGs, two HILLS HAVE EYES and two BLACK CHRISTMASes.
Also slated for remakes in the future are HALLOWEEN, THE THING, and THE BIRDS.
Yes, the Horror genre by and large takes it in the ass on this one. Which is why I have turned to TARTAN Asian EXTREME for my dose of the willies.
You want an original scare? Check out A TALE OF TWO SISTERS, or Fruit Chan's DUMPLINGS on the 3 EXTREMES DVD.

Yeah I saw that to. I think this is the first time Ive actually like, really been against a remake. I wasnt against the TCM remake cause sorry, you can talk about how it added to the movie all you want, dont care, didnt like how it looked...
Then again Im only 17.
One bad thing, is the fact that no one picks up hitchhikers anymore, kinda takes away from it...

Against which one? The critics are pretty much ripping the hell out of BLACK CHRISTMAS on DreadCentral.com.
And the fans are ripping apart Rob Zombie's HALLOWEEN already. They're ready to lynch the poor guy for even trying to remake HALLOWEEN.

And here i thought Rob Zombie had earned a little bit of respect from the Horror community. Or am I wrong about that?

And here i thought Rob Zombie had earned a little bit of respect from the Horror community. Or am I wrong about that? You're not wrong, EMB......it's just that the HALLOWEEN franchise is kind of a sacred cow to a LOT of folks, and Rob came out and announced he was doing a "re-imagining" of HALLOWEEN, which would be kinda like Bret Ratner announcing he was re-imagining Lord of the Rings. The fans were not at all pleased, and what little bit of goodwill Rob had with HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES and DEVIL'S REJECTS just evaporated.

I hadn't heard about Halloween being remade. Don't fix it if it isn't broke. Halloween is an all time classic, don't screw with it!

Im somewhat against remakes, but the bad ones at the very least give attention to the much better originals. Sometimes I wish Jason Voorhees would be repackaged into a more 'real' charecter with focus on his disdain for drug abusers/whores/ etc etc etc... kinda like Travis Bickle from Taxi Driver.
Eh, I dunno

Fangoria is reporting that Malcolm McDowell will be playing Dr. Loomis in the new Halloween Remake and to me it is REALLY REALLY bad casting... imdb.com/name/nm0000532/Also Rob Zombie's myspace as well as Fangoria is reporting that Tyler Mane will be in Michael's Mask...heres an excerpt ... "I'm sure you all remember Tyler as Rufus from THE DEVIL'S REJECTS, Sabretooth in X-MEN and the unstoppable Ajax in TROY," Zombie writes. "Tyler is mean, lean and ready to bring you the most psychotic Michael Myers yet."

If memory serves correct he teamed with Kevin Nash at some point as well.

I mean, Leatherface is SUPPOSED to be a hulking brute. Myers? He's supposed to be an inky phantom that slinks in an slips a knife between your ribs before you know what the hell just happened. Good luck for that with Tyler Mane. But still, I will withhold my judgement until I see the flick. (If I actually end up seeing it, that is).

I don't get the remakes either. In the 70's John Carpenter, Wes Craven, Bob Clarke and Sergio Argento just to name a few directors were making really well thought out grusome, gory horror films. Now we get the gore with out the proper film technique. Not to sound snobbish but I think the downfall of the horror genre started quietly in the 80's when studio's discovered that 13-18 year boys were a great target demo and that teenage boys didn't give a crap about camera work or plot or the cinamotagraphy of a graphic scene, that just wanted the graphic scene and nudity no matter how poorly done. Although some great horror films were made in the 80's and early 90's eventually it led to the kind of paint by numbers, "this is shocking, isn't it"? horror movies of today

Bravo did this "100 Scaries Movie Moments Of All Time" countdown show a couple of years ago. I still have it on tape and watch it from time to time. The horror genre used to be so much better

But yeah.....today's films are marketed to kids with the attention span of your average housefly. That's why they're so unsatisfactory for us older folks. We want, for lack of a better term, the foreplay, the build up to make the payoff GREAT. The kids just want the "money shot" and that's it. Which gives us HOSTEL. A film comprised of nothing but gorehound "money shots".....so busy giving us those shots, in fact, that it forgets to give us ANY plot. Like I said earlier....look to TARTAN's Asian Extreme Line. It contains that which the real horror fan seeks.
