Yep, and, it's not technically underrated, but I think y'all should check out "The Devil Wears Prada". I mean, yeah, it's about fashion and all, but it's still pretty funny, IMO. What is the technical definition of under-rated? I'm going with, "got really harsh reviews, but I liked it." And, by that definition, "Devil Wears Prada" doesn't qualify, cuz it got good reviews, but, like I said, I still recommend it. (Although I'd still like to see the knock off Dave Gold *Michael Rapaport* on "The War At Home" alluded to, "The Devil Wears Nada" ;D)

Blackball.
Who would've thought that a National Lampoon straight to video movie could be entertaining? And a movie about Lawn Bowling, no less.

Agreed. I also have to add Sleepers to my list. IMO, one of the most underrated movies of the 90's. Kevin Bacon deserved at least an Ocsar nom. for his portrayal of the child-molesting prison guard. I also think Barry Levinson is one of the most underrated American directors period. Also, Apollo 13, Blow, Boiler Room, Bugsy, Carlito's Way (better than Scarface), Casino, Donnie Brasco, Falling Down, Kingpin (w/Woody Harrelson + Randy Quaid), Miller's Crossing, Poolhall Junkies, U-Turn, and Wag the Dog.

There are so many films in this list that have been both critical and commercial successes. How are they under-rated? Seriously, this is more of a "films I like" thread.

Hehehe, pretty much, though, the one I started the thread with, My Super Ex-Girlfriend, got lambasted by the critics and was considered a bomb, so I went into it thinking it was gonna really suck, and I ended up liking it, so...

Bottoms Up...starring Jason Mewes (of Jay and Silent Bob fame) and Paris Hilton...yes that freakin Paris Hilton...surpisingly her appearances were short and actually tolerable...

Jawbreaker: Way better than mean girls speed 2: everyone says this is one of the worse films ever made, but I thought it was a decent popcorn flick. And William Defoe is in it!

That odd considering that out of the three people on the box cover, those two are the biggest. I saw this at Blockbuster last night and instantly thought, "this movie has to be crap."

Every movie is someone's favorite movie. My favorite movie is, Gigli. There's your answer. Aw, f*** that. I admit that I crapped on it based solely on others' reviews, but my friend made me watch it last year. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was. It was ten times worse.

First off, I'm not gonna count cult classics like Reservoir Dogs, Boondock Saints or Donnie Darko.
Blue in the Face/Smoke (...A pair of great indie flicks starring Harvey Keital, who works at a cigar shop in Brooklyn. Plus, Mel Gorham is a FOX.)
Bubba Ho-Tep (it made me laugh and cry)
XXX: State of the Union (Okay, the first was insanely awesome and Vin turned down the sequel, but the second was still a solid action flick, in my opinion.)
The Big Hit (I caught it on TBS and bought the DVD. I've watched it a few times since then and it still holds up as a great story)

Cable Guy. Hilarious movie yet it always seems to get ragged on. I love it.

Battlefield Earth wasn't bad. It was said to be really terrible, but it was pretty decent. I think most of the hate on that movie is internet bandwagon hype.
