I wonder what everyone at the time thought about Shawn taking that sledgehammer shot after the match? Did everyone take it as a sign that his back was okay enough for him to be able to take that bump? As an aside (of sorts), JR going off on HHH after the match for attacking HBK with the sledgehammer is one of his finest moments.

Mixed emotions really. While it was cool to see HBK in a match again I did kind of roll my eyes and think the match was going to suck and HBK would be limited.
What we got was beyond my expectations. HBK had no business being that good again.

Also, I still get a little misty-eyed at the spot when he does the kip-up for the first time in years. Not gonna lie.

Everything surrounding Triple H sucked to me, so I wasn't looking forward to this match and I still think it's overrated.

I've always assumed the sledgehammer spot was done just in case his back responded poorly and they had to write him out of storylines again. Gets HHH more heat by taking out Shawn once and for all and gives HBK a reason to not wrestle again despite having a comeback match.

I have always hated pre-back injury Shawn. I wasn't watching in 2002, but by the time I started again in 2006 and saw the last few years, Shawn is one of the only wrestlers to be better after retirement by such an enormous distance.

My anticipation and excitement levels for Shawn's first match in four years was equal to or greater than JR's excitement for Skittles.

Did everyone take it as a sign that his back was okay enough for him to be able to take that bump? To me it was odd because if you watch the go home Raw, Shawn kept fighting but would grab his back which looking back was him making HHH think he was so weak but for me I kind of knew that he would be fine. Only because he had a match in TWA (His wrestling school) in 00 which in that match he did do a pile driver on the steps spot. The only thing I was wondering just how good would he be in the terms of rust and much like his 00 match, it was a fight and built up as one. I wasn't expecting what he did and all the bumps.

Man, what a comeback this was. The heel turn from HHH and the promos that followed afterwards. THATS how you do a comeback. It’s a shame Daniel Bryan’s comeback was wasted on a Team Hell No reunion and Big f***ing Cass of all people. This should have been similar to HBK’s return, a massive road to redemption ending with Bryan becoming WWE Champion once again... but they blew it in my opinion. It’s slightly picking up again with The Miz feud and maybe that’ll lead to a big blowoff at Wrestlemania... although personally I have no interest in seeing Brie anywhere near Bryan on screen. Gotta make Roman...oh, never mind.

I think there were a lot of people who wanted it to fail and thought it would due to Shawn being damaged...or so we thought. Anyway, the former was because Kliq and because Triple H only puts over his friends.
But...even those people were silenced or had to admit they saw something special. Little did we know the best was yet to come. At least HBK got a good run with his prick tendencies curbed or even nonexistant (I won't say he was totally innocent...if you believe him purposely spiting Hogan. Jericho also should have won at Mania the first time)

He came out skinnier with this tan and chaps over jeans and I thought he was finished.
But, he's my favorite (in the ring, out of the ring he can F off) because he always seems to rise to the occasion.

Much like with Kurt's return match to WWE a couple of years back, I was too scared for his health to enjoy it, tbh. Definitely got easier as time went on of course.
