What’s really lost in all this is Space Jam itself f***ing sucked. I wouldn’t say it sucks but honestly, if you replaced all the Looney Tunes with Disney Afternoon characters, you’d barely have to change anything about the movie itself. There’s a reason Back in Action is better and that’s because it’s a Looney Tunes movie first and foremost and not a Michael Jordan movie with the LT wedged in. I’m busting out argument to authority and saying Chuck Jones agrees with me.

It should have been called Cyberspace Jam.

Even the all time greats occasionally get things wrong. Good thing this isn’t one of them. 😋 Honestly, I’m not really seeing where Jordan acted like he didn’t want to be there, he seemed initially as baffled as any normal person would who was sucked into a parallel universe. And the first movie is a Jordan vehicle primarily, true, I just think he did a good job within the framework the writers built for him. IMO, it got a following over time not just because of the nostalgia appeal (it also can’t be understated how much of a cultural force Jordan was at the time, and how popular those first Looney Tune/Nike spots were), but also because him and the Looney Tunes pretty much equally benefit and get to show their strengths off. Back In Action is fine, but I there are a number of cross-branding factors that broadened Space Jam’s appeal.

I understand what they were going for but again, it only gave snippits of the Looney Tunes as a concept. It's why Back in Action just did that better. And I also get what it did culturally and I understand why it happened but, to me, it'd be sort of like saying the embodiment of what the Muppets are is through Muppets Wizard of Oz. Like, sure, the Muppets are in it and they do things but that was an Ashanti movie that starred the Muppets, not The Muppets with Ashanti.

So Yosemite Sam gets to keep his guns? A movie is not a TV show. Sam doesn't have his guns in the TV show, either.

Then again, Ready Player One made $583 million worldwide..... It's also one of Speilberg's worse films Haven’t seen it, but the big accomplishment there is that it’s apparently both one of Spielberg’s lesser films while still being a marked step up from the book. Yeesh, that book... But yeah, I do kind of have to chuckle over people being upset over this trailer when, really, the original wasn’t exactly a good movie to begin with, just many of us have an ironic attachment to it for various reasons. I’m sure it’ll be fun enough in it’s own way for younger audiences today, is what it is.

I think people in 1996 knew they weren’t getting a “pure” Looney Tunes experience, and they were largely fine with that. It was a sports audience and an animation crowd finding common ground.

So uh... WB... why did you put the violent rape gang from Clockwork Orange in your kids basketball movie? like not even really hiding them? They're pretty much center of the shot at 2:24... Mystery Inc, Monty Python Life of Brian, and Thundercats too it looks like at the same time

It also wasn’t the first time we got a Michael Jordan - Looney Tunes team up. Jordan did some Nike commercials with Bugs a few years prior.

Yes, but since that is true, couldn't they say something to shut up the people who think it is? Again, why? To give people more right to ask when scenes are deleted in movies? Because the answer is going to be a boring "We need to make the allotted time and cut stuff that didn't fit". Which those people aren't going to believe anyway. Maybe. But I just want to see (though as you say it's unlikely) the CC complainers eat crow when someone confirms that is not why.

All these cameos & no Tiny Toons. This has kinda been bugging me ever since the subtitle was revealed. "The New Legacy", well weren't the Tiny Toons supposed to be that? They got an HBO Max series coming but they get no sold here.

Freakin' Pennywise is in the crowd. Hell, Nicholson's Joker is in there and he's probably got a bigger body count than anybody.

Personally I doubt the Pepe scene shows up unless it’s just the storyboards. I don’t think they animated it. I’m just awaiting the inevitable social media BS crying over them keeping a cameo from a gang from a movie that was originally X-rated in a family movie. I mean...the Simpsons did it minus any of the other stuff but I doubt that stops the crying...and honestly I think they’d have more of a case in that than being butthurt over their original issue. (And honestly...I don’t want them to have a single drop of fuel to throw on their fire. If that means cutting a small cameo...for the love of god WB....help a brother out.)
