Just saw that. That's Rock as Scorpion King levels of 'off' CGI. Wow. Everything up to that looks great, then they pan to his face and it's just 'oh..oh no.' And that was 2000 CGI, boys and girls. Honestly, I'd just have kept the original outfit and stuff because most Arabic and conventional portrayals of genies looked as such. Turning him into a big blue pile of fart smoke is just... Wrong.

Seriously, the parallels between this revision of Will Smith's Genie and Dr. Manhattan from The Watchmen film are almost apt, the Photoshop magazine cover hits it.

The biggest issue with the design is the big issue with these remakes, it's so uninspired. There's no creativity to it. It's literally Will Smith painted blue. Think of it like Jim Carrey in The Mask. From the prosthetics to the visual effects, they designed the character to be as cartoonish as possible. Make the eyes bigger, expand his body, give him a wild mane of hair, something to justify the CG. You might as well just keep him in human form.
That's not even getting into that the rest of the film seems to suffer from the same problem. Just bland all around.

Yep, gotta clearly see that it's Will Smith. Gotta cater to the A-lister. Kinda for the same reasons why live action Nala will have more lines, a bigger role, will probably save Simba's ass from Scar, and have access to time travel. Second, whenever Nala's not on screen, everyone should look sad and say, "Where's Nala?"
But...if WS Genie does wacky impersonations like the animated one and one of them is the Fresh Prince, all is forgiven.
P.S. Naveen Andrews should have been Jafar. He did a good job in the Once Upon A Time spinoff.
P.P.S. OUAT should have been, among other things, an NXT-like ground for training actors and actresses who could be in these live action version movies. I'd be down for that.
P.P.P.S. The girl who played Ariel on OUAT nailed it. Not sure if she could sing too though.

As much as I (justifiably) dislike Maleficent, at least Jolie brought her own protruding cheekbones ;-) Disney can't win with critics and people like us....either they play it safe and have boring stuff like this and Beauty and the Beast, or reinvent the wheel and get slop like my all-time favorite live action reimagining ;-)

Movies that didn't work and aren't really considered classics that they can retool.

After seeing the N******* C*****'s review on TBC and how imperfect it was, I'd be down for a real darker version. What else? Let's mess with people's minds and do a Fox and the Hound LIKE THE ORIGINAL BOOK.

I’d be for a live action Atlantis Lost Empire. That movie was underrated.
As was Great Mouse Detective. If they used the same tech they did for Rocket in Guardians to animate Basil and the others, they could try that again.
Or Recess. That’s an easy summer live action comedy for kids, without a massive budget.

I don't like to gauge how correct I am based on the consensus of the jackals and mouth-breathers that exist on Twitter, but I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who thinks the movie's CGI looks putrid. From the moment I watched that trailer last night, all I could think was that I've seen video games - and I'm talking PlayStation 3 and XBox 360 games - with better CGI and graphics than what "Aladdin" has to offer.
It's like Disney put all its top professionals into the Avengers movies and The Lion King remake and then left a handful of interns in charge of "Aladdin."

Everything will work out. It'll be a decent movie if they play it for laughs.

Mostly this just makes me want to watch the original animated classic again, just like The Lion King live-action trailer did...
