It's obviously a worked shoot. IW is an indy fed and Aries will probably make some indy appearances just to suddendly reappear at IW. Him being done with IW is part of the worked shoot. Just look at the camerawork at the end of BFG! If this was a shoot they would not have focussed on Aries, but on Morrison...eh Impact.

Put me in the small minority that's okay with all of this. I don't really love the worked shoot finish, but I'm totally down for Loose Cannon Austin Aries running around other promotions doing shitty stuff and then showing on Impact with an air of mystique.

I'm totally cool with this. Wasn't the point of wrestling always to question if two guys really hated each other? I'll be honest, this match had enough about it to keep me wondering and when the dust settles, it will easily be one of my favourite matches of the year, whatever the outcome.
And that's from someone who is pretty ambivalent about both guys usually.

Thing is, in the Pillman era where the internet was very new, it was easier to wonder if his Loose Cannon stuff was real. Now in an era where you can get news at the touch of a screen, no one is gonna believe Aries is a legit nutcase. Especially now it’s leaked that’s the angle he wants to do. If they wanted to make it effective, make people really wonder, they’d have asked people to shut up about it. Even sign NDA’s that they won’t leak it to the sheets if the angle is that important. Also when Pillman did it... it was new. We've had about 20 years of worked shoot Russo bullshit.

Frankly I don't care if it's a work, shoot, the match happened, it's over. All I know is that the pseudo heat the two guys had made for a better match.

This is what I get for starting to soften on TNA. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me ELEVENTY BILLION TIMES INTO BELIEVING TNA HAS TURNED A CORNER.... Why? Because they did something they want to make it seem real in an activity that is fake? Oh the humanity...! It's not original but not criminal.

Because they did something they want to make it seem real in an activity that is fake? Yes, that is the crux of the matter, and it doesn't work because wrestling depends on willing suspension of disbelief and the 4th wall is there for that very reason, and also because EVERYBODY ALREADY KNOWS THAT IT IS FAKE!
When Aries did what he did on Sunday by just walking off two finishers (one of which was his own move), he basically shit all over what was previously a very, very good match between two high caliber wrestlers.

Pwinsider:
In regard to the Austin Aries situation, there were segments written for him for this week's TV tapings that were later changed after the Bound for Glory PPV. Aries returned home to Las Vegas on Tuesday.

Because Russo did them ad nauseam both in wcw and tna and they never worked. Because it's a failed concept. Because TNA did this shit a couple of years ago to fool the internet by having fake spoilers in tapings, complete with Matt Hardy wearing a bigfoot costume. Because this company is starting to get some sympathy and good faith from fans, only for them to turn back into loltna.

CM Punk's pipe bomb proved that there was a way to get something across as a "shoot" or "not supposed to happen" without breaking kayfabe at all--"I'm going to take your title and defend it in New Japan, or Ring of Honor wrestling." He said stuff that he "wasn't supposed to" but not in a way that broke the rules of wrestling, and at heart he was still cutting a wrestling promo. Pretty much nobody else has been able to properly walk that line before or since.

Austin Aries is going to end up threatening Shark Boy with a gun, isn't he?

You have been able to garner goodwill and build up something nice without having to go back to the old TNA ways that had people laughing at you instead of wanting to be on the journey with you
Concrete Jungle match could be filled under LOLTNA due to how dangerous it was but the difference is I was intrigued and couldn't look away. The talent in the ring performed smartly and while Kingston may have taken 10 years off his career with that last bump, everybody in the match walked away looking good
For me everything was good until he got up and walked out after the finish because that doesn't enhance anything. Even him diving on Taya was a holy shit this filthy bastard need to get got kind of moment and it fit into their story but getting up after the finish and flipping off Don makes no sense and not telling the talent stinks of Russo booking

It's not like he has a contract you could have easily had him lose (don't get up after the finish) and say Aries is done with the company and let him do his thing he was doing before he came back to Impact

Pretty much nobody else has been able to properly walk that line before or since. Yeah the pipe bomb worked unlike the majority of other worked shoot because everything he said still fits in kayfabe. Almost every other attempt drops into the usual "this is real unlike the other fake shit" even Punk trying later with things like the terrible this is Phil Brooks talking to Paul Levesque line. Aries getting up and walking off after a match pushes that wrestling is fake but this right here is real... and if that's the case impact is blatantly saying the rest of their show doesn't matter cause it's fake bullshit.

I just assumed this was similar to what they did with Christian. Have a way for him to leave with a contract up and also give him an angle if he decides to come back

A bit more details about Aries:
PWInsider is reporting that IMPACT actually had plans for Aries at this week’s television tapings, but those were scrapped following Bound For Glory. As for the speculation of this all being a “Loose Cannon” angle, there’s been no word either way on that.
