The two closest K-Marts to me closed a while ago. I don't know what the furthest away one became, but the closer one became a Burlington Coat Factory.
I'll have to check to see how the Sears near me is doing. I know they had an auto shop so that may help, but who knows?

So, I’ve worked in Sears for 18 years. 14 of which were actually for Sears in the receiving department. I currently work for Sears Optical which is a division of Luxottica. I’ve been doing that since 2014 when my local/closest to home store closed. Since then I’ve worked in 3 different locations. When one closed I bwanna came full time at another location. I just got the news yesterday that the one I currently work at will be closing in a few months ( it takes about 3 months to actually close a store once the liquidation process starts). Being a Lix employee is beneficial because I at least have the possibility of transferring to one of the other brands under our umbrella like LensCrafters. Despite that this is definitely a scary time for me. I’ve hung on probably way longer than I should have and now I’m pretty much trapped, hoping there’s a place for me at the LensCrafters near where I live. It’s been pretty damn depressing watching Sears fall from the inside in the past 6 years. My heart goes out to every Sears employee that won’t have the option of transferring somewhere else.

Our biggest mall here has remodeled everything from one end to the other. All that is left is the Sears. The local paper just said that rather than remodel the Sears, they are just going to buy out their lease and kick them out.

All of the Sears locations in Sumter shut down and now our local newspaper posted online that they're shutting down the K-Mart in our area. When we first moved to Sumter, South Carolina in 1998 the K-Mart was literally in that same location. From time to time we'd go in there to shop, buy food from the restaurant inside, or even just to hang out for the heck of it sometimes. I remember that's where I found the Carpenters: Love Songs collection despite advertisements saying "Cannot be found in any stores!"
Definitely going to be weird seeing that K-Mart location become an empty space. I am also saddened at what became of Sears as their catalogs were a product of a lot of childhood memories for me.

There was a K-Mart nearby that closed down a few years ago, the building site has yet to have been used for anything. It's just a bunch of empty space.

Yeah its still weird with them being out of Florence...I know Sears turned into Burlington but K Mart is still empty...

We had a giant ass Sears at the local mall. It's been shut down for a few months but it was such a big store I have no idea what would be put in to replace it. My town has a Kmart closing down. same thing it's f***ing huge no idea what will go there. You could probably out 3 or 4 stores in it. The KMart by me that closed years ago was bought by some dude that promised pie in the sky ideas: an entertainment center with a movie theater and indoor water park. (It's in a good location: right off of 80/94.) Then he bought another infamous Region mall, ripped that down to the bare bones that was Carson Pirie Scott, and...did nothing after that. The city, realizing this was the same guy who did absolutely NOTHING to the KMart property, finally figured out this guy's background & took this guy to court. He had nothing, so they got their properties back. It's finally starting to pay off. A Planet Fitness & BMV was placed inside the old building, an Aldi where Wise Way used to be. Some new stores built along US 41 with Great Clips, Red Wing Shoes, an insurance guy (because you HAVE to). A White Castle. As far as the mall? Some more small shops. Carson's closed, but we have a new kick-ass Sportsplex that can host 6 basketball games (or indoor soccer or 12 volleyball) at once.

Yeah, there’s a few big old department stores sitting empty in the city near me, one was actually a KMart when they were still in Canada and it’s been empty for over 10 years. My local mall really f***ed up about 10-15 years ago, they got ridiculously high with their leases and couldn’t get anchor stores to stay because it was more cost effective to have a standalone building but now some of those anchor stores are going back, and the mall is thriving. But the giant ass buildings they used to be in are sitting empty
