Wonder why the Fat Boys got the actual Freddy and this just got...whatever that was. Long story short - this was made independently of New Line Cinema, the studio wanted full control of all Nightmare properties, so they commissioned The Fat Boys to get Englund and make the song for the next movie, while this video was litigated to death. Long story medium, I go into more detail here - goradiomn.com/will-smiths-long-lost-nightmare-video-has-finally-surfaced/

The video's been found (not in the most optimal condition though) I love the random Growing Pains clip at 1:42.

Wow nice find. Always liked that song but had no idea there was ever a video made.
After watching that I want to believe the few seconds of Growing Pains was actually part of the video.

So clearly because this wasn't licensed, the stock horror footage was supposed to be Elm Street 1. And I'm sure the Fresh Prince Freddy would have been Englund if there was support from New Line, right? This is exciting!

Did we just watch a cursed Ringu video? Did we just conjure up a gateway in to hell?

Yeah, I think that Will obviously wanted Robert-as-Freddy in this video when he came up with the idea for it.

New Line Cinema should have been beating down Will Smith's door to let him release that, and offered Robert Englund to appear in the video. Will Smith wasn't anything when he released this. It was 1988, he only had "Parents Just Don't Understand" as any sort of mainstream hit in a genre that said mainstream was more than content to let just be the Fat Boys, Beastie Boys and DJ Fad. And "Parents" was seen by most at the time as a comedic novelty song by a potential one-hit wonder.

Not at the time he didn't. Fat Boys were legit stars, even if was only for a brief period of time. Got their own movie, tv appearances, etc. They were legitimately the biggest (no pun intended) rappers in America for a short time.

It loses some of its charm without the random Growing Pains clip.
