A rundown of some of what EGM thought each year done in awards show format. Nice look at what was "in" each year. New eps Tuesday and Thursday until Christmas.
Up: 1989, 1990.

I'm loving these. The Nintendo lawsuit bits are funny.

These are interesting to look back on. Surprised they would pick Sonic 1 over Super Mario World for GOTY in 91. I was a Sega kid, never owning a SNES but Sonic 1 doesn't even come close to that game. Sonic 3 and Knuckles could but that was some years off.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles could but that was some years off. It was essentially more the strength of the hype machine that Sonic had then as this Mario Killer of sorts. A lot of people felt that Mario World wasn't a strong step up for the series (though that's been proven way wrong). I don't mind Sonic 1, was the last of the main line I played on Genesis and it's grown on me a bit more overtime. It's not as good as what followed, but for a platformer it's decent.

1994. A gorilla of a year Man, every one of the presenters in that Cybermania '94 awards show look embarrassed to be there. On the plus side, Donkey Kong Country really does still look and sound terrific 24 years later.

Watching these videos makes me wish I had a Sega Master System and TurboGrafx-16 because I have a feeling I missed out on some great games.

It's kind of incredible how EGM constantly gave the Zelda series so much shade each year. Especially OOT considering how much clout it's had over the years.
