If you were in Heidelberg, perhaps you came across Frankfurt am Main as well? This town is famous for its cider pubs, you might call them...very casual places where you can meet the locals (you usually don't sit at separate tables but on large tables with long benches) and also get a good variety of good German dishes (potato soup, sausage platters, schnitzel [besides the regular version, there exists usually a specialty schnitzel of the house; for example, one pub I went to, had a delicious schnitzel covered in an apple wine sauce with grilled potatoes], pork leg, grilled meat loaf with sunny-side up egg etc.). They also get their name from being famous for their cider which is very famous in Frankfurt (if you do not like alcoholic drinks, they also have apple juice or any soft drinks you'd like). My girlfriend and I actually did go to Frankfurt am Main, but did not get a chance to go to a cider pub as we were not in the city awfully long. I'll definitely have to go sometime though as I loved the city and will be back. Many of my ancestors are from the area. In fact, my Great, Great Grandfather was the burgomeister of Frankenberg, Hessen. Also, my Great Grandfather was successful in Fritzlar, Hessen where he was the agricultural director, the youngest one in Northern Hessen when he was promoted to the position at 35.

Yep in Las Vegas, off the strip. This was MANY years back, cause one of my cousins have German heritage.

A couple.
there's a nice one nearby that's been open forever... though it does have some dodgey history there for semi-obvious reasons.

Currywurst is an abomination in the eyes of god. They do have very good bakeries in Munich, though. While I do agree about the bakeries in Munich, you're way off on currywurst. Love that stuff.

I've been told it's awesome if you're drunk; maybe the problem is I ate it stone cold sober? Or maybe it's just not for me. (I would live in Munich forever just to eat locally made cherry pastries every day if I could, though.)

Yes, and I got seriously sick and tired of the place. It wound up catering every single function I went to and I just did not care for their food. Jezum, was it like the only catering service in Brownsburg?

Jezum, was it like the only catering service in Brownsburg? It was the Schnitzelbank in Jasper, not Brownsburg. It may not have been the only place that catered in town, but it may as well have. I no longer live or work there anymore so the place can't hurt me anymore.

In the US cider refers to unfiltered, unsweetened apple juice while hard cider refers to the alcoholic kind. You know, because we just have to be different.

Until I watched a certain show 5 years ago, I didn't even know the term "cider". Thought it was just called apple wine all this time.

Been, no. There's one across the state line in Illinois. And a nice one near a B&B we stayed at a few years back.
I have to rectify that soon.
