Should've done him instead of Iron Fist, who has never been an interesting character and that continued to be the case with the TV shows.

Okay, I’ll admit it: I’d literally never heard of Shang-Chi at all prior to the creation of this thread.

Yep, that's it.

Honestly this one kind of just seems a bit too mercenary to me? It's such an obscure and, really, stereotypical character that the idea really feels like no one involved so much actually wants to do it as they want another Black Panther.
Granted it could very well turn out very good in spite of that and I don't really object so much, it just sort of feels hollow.

I feel the opposite. Because it's so obscure and there not being much to it, they can do a lot of potentially new things with it. Could be very interesting.

Well Shang-Chi was one of the original planned movies when Marvel decided to go into the movie business so why not? (Then again they didn’t have the movie rights to Iron Man or Thor so that original slate could have been uglyyyyyy.)

So he pretty much Bruce Lee then. Let me guess, he was created in the 70s during the Bruceploitation era where everyone and their mom was trying to make money off of Bruce Lee death?

Same way Luke Cage was created off the popularity of Shaft, so was he with the Kung Fu movies. He actually predates Iron Fist by one year

I misread this as Shang Tsung, wondering if this was a Marvel/Mortal Kombat crossover

Loved Shang Chi when I was a kid reading comics in the late 70s. And really looking forward to this film.Hopefully they follow the comic, and not just use the title like they did with the two horrible Guardians of the Galaxy films.

Interesting, since Michelle Yeoh is technically part of the MCU already (she briefly showed up in GOTG2, as Aleta who was one of the Starhawks with the original GOTG in the comics). But then I'm fairly sure this is the 4th or 5th time someone has played another role in the MCU.

Off the top of my head Gemma Chan was in Captain Marvel and will be in Eternals, Alfre Woodard was in Luke Cage and Civil War

Guardians is 2 great movies As an asian we got this "crazy rich asians was our black panther" nah. This is our black panther. GoTG made so much money byt beyond that those 2 movies were contained enough to stand on their own. With shang chi they again get an open sand box. All i want is for simu liu to kill it like he does in kim's convenience I really want shang chi to beat iron fist with one punch. And say you failed k'un l'un. And that is the end of finn jones as iron fist. Really happy my daughter will have shang chi and mulan come out so close together Expecting movies to just be the comic books verbatim is short sighted. I mean most of us watched jlu, batman tas and superman tas as the definition of w Dc lore

Nobody gives a shit about the original version of the team so they did Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's team.

Nobody gives a shit about the original version of the team so they did Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's team. Call me nobody cause myself and at least 8 or so other people I know love that original team. Sure The D&A team became huge. But the original team lasted for what 3 decades and had that long running series back in the 90s. And you could take that team now throw a name writer on it and it would sell. Put say Grant Morrison, hmm that would be interesting,or say Jason Aaron writing about Charlie 27 and the rest. It would be like if they did something titled The Defenders and didn't have say Dr Strange or Valkirye,Namor or say Nighthawk. Oddly I did enjoy the Defenders tv show, but really wish they had named that team a different name. And to tie up all this rambling,it was thru the 70s Defenders comic that I got into the original GotG. Want to say they appeared in the 3rd year of Defenders. And Dr Strange and the gang helped defeat the Badoon.
