I'll be 57 when the time comes to open that capsule.

I remember watching this happen.
Oh man, it was so exciting, and I'm not really sure why

The Joey Lawrence "Whoa! '92" hat is the best thing in that capsule BY FAR.

I remember watching this happen. Oh man, it was so exciting, and I'm not really sure why I think this was more exciting in a pre-internet world. All this stuff would kind of travel to the future, imagining the reactions of people, how much people would understand. From this point on, they can get stuff out, google it, or the equivalent, and move on. It's taken a lot of the mystery out of it. That plus the contents are basically an episode of I Heart 1991 on VH1 so it's the kind of stuff that gets analysed to death in our nostalgia heavy age.

Exactly...even the video evidence of it being 'buried' gives away exactly what things are going to be revealed once opened. If anything, this has become less of a 'time capsule' moreso it's a scientific experiment on whether Twinkies can truly withstand nuclear war and whether Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" or MJ's "Remember the Time" is more fondly accepted half a century after the fact.

Having instant access of the video of the burial kind of defeats the purpose of having a time capsule. It's one thing if it was 1919, but with everything digital now...
Oh, I forgot about World War III destroying everything. Never should have trusted Taylor Swift.

The British kids show, Blue Peter buried a time capsule sometime in the late 60s/early 70s. IIRC they dug it up at the turn of the century and some of it was water damaged.

My senior class buried a time capsule in 93, and apparently after some ground work performed over the years, they cannot find it now.

NYC Transit buried a time capsule outside of their old Jay Street headquarters in Brooklyn in 1950 when the building first opened. They rediscovered it a couple of years ago when renovating the building in preparation to turn it over to NYU. It was not watertight in the slightest and when opening it all they found was a "rust colored mush of mud and sand".

The most depressing thing now is there is less time to go till the capsule can be opened than when it was buried.

It amazes me how many times the Nick time capsule has been reloacted.
First at Universal Florida.
Then moved to the Nick Hotel in Florida.
Then moved again to the Nick stidios in California.
This thing was moved cross country.

This thing was moved cross country. At this point, you may as well shove it in a storage locker somewhere until someone bothers to ask in 2040. Not like keeping it below ground is going to help anyone at this point.
