They stopped because it's a song with zero concern for consent.

They could sing that 'cold outside' song.

Just cash in on the reboot and sing the Ducktales theme song instead, the full two-verse version.

People do understand there's a difference between making the first move and f***ing rape and assault right??

Well last I checked there's a lot of songs out there. I don't see why taking out a couple is any sort of big deal.

Within the context of the movie, it's a completely innocent song. The anthropomorphic talking crab is trying to convince a man to kiss his transformed mermaid friend in order to break a spell or fulfill a contract. The crab considers it a favor and knows his friend wants the kiss.

Little more context that Yahoo left out, from the official statement from the group: So yeah, knee-jerk reaction by the group on something that was a bit non-consensual in the first place. Drop the whole 'audience participation' nonsense and it'd be fine. It's not the song's fault they completely misunderstood the point that Ariel/Eric weren't two rando strangers (well, outside of normal Disney conventions anyways...).

That article uses the word "Problematic" twice. Seriously, buy a thesaurus.
What's more shocking than the song being taken out, is that acapella groups are still a thing.

They have seen the movie, right? They were singing the song because Ariel was cursed with no voice and a kiss from Eric would have freed her and her soul.

It's them passing the buck onto the song, not their shitty routine.

Is there anything Social Justice Weenies won't complain about? Did you read the article? If you did, the issue was the audience participation. They just want to blame the song.

Well yeah, selecting a random man and woman, showcasing them on stage in front of an audience, and then trying to goad them into kissing when they presumably don't know each other is a bad idea. Not sure why this group is so shocked by that.
As for the song, anything can be cast in a negative light if taken out of context.
