Anyone seen/planning to see this?
I loved the book series. One of my favourites as a kid. Gonna go and see it Saturday.
I've just got a feeling they've changed too much. They're marketing it as "join the rebellion" when in the books, the main character stands out because he doesn't trust or like either side and, indeed, both sides are just as bad as each.
Which for me made the series stand out. So I'm hoping the movies haven't lost that aspect.

I like the trailers and Peter Jackson is usually solid so yes I want to see this. The marketing is leaning so heavily on him it isn't obvious that he isn't directing. This is the director Christian Rivers first feature film on IMDB. He was a "splinter unit" director on a couple of the hobbit films and 2nd unit director on Pete's Dragon.

I think my friend read this because the title sounds familiar but the promoting is dookie and makes it look some Maze Runner ish.

Will it be more Harry Potter and Hunger Games or closer to Maze Runner, Divergent, Mortal Instruments, etc? I guess Twilight is somewhere in the middle.

If I hadn't read the books the promoting would have me waiting until it's online to watch. They're playing it up like the usual YA adaption... Chosen one the world revolves around, rebellion, clear cut good and bad guys when really, the book isn't like that. I'm still looking forward to seeing it though.

Like one author (Sherrilyn Kenyon) is apparently in the middle of suing her, as far as these go there's a few glaring similarities.

$7.5 million opening weekend. It's now expected to lose anywhere between $100-150 million.
Between this and the Dark Universe throwing money into the fire, Universal are really relying on Fast & Furious, Minions/Despicable Me, and Jurassic World more than ever.

Shame it's a flop.
I was hoping it's do well because the later books are great and the war would look awesome on film.
The movie though, wasn't great unfortunately. They bizarrely left out a moment from the book where London destroys a large German city with MEDUSA. It would have been great on the big screen, like the movies "Alderaan moment" seeing an entire city destroyed while people cheer. But wasn't included.
The movie felt rushed. The first half hour, great. The world looked great with the detail in the backgrounds like the London propaganda posters and references to future books. Shrike was also excellent.
It fell apart once Shrike was killed and was too rushed. We didn't get to see enough of the locations they went too.
It's a shame. This could have been great.
