Has anyone seen this? I just watched it today on a random whim and I can barely believe this exists. I'm packing a list of things that happen in this movie out of context in spoiler tags, but I still sincerely recommend you check this out. {Spoiler} Harley Quinn works as a waitress at a superhero themed Hooters called Superbabes. Harley sexually assaults a beaten and tied up Nightwing. During this scene she also insinuates that Batman and Robin are gay and references the book Seduction Of The Innocent, which she has written a paper on. There is a sequence set in a dance club full of supervillain henchmen in which Harley performs a rockabilly number on stage. Even Batman gets into it. There is a prolonged joke about Harley's farts being so bad she hotboxes the batmobile. In a brawl scene, they play the Adam West fight music with the sound effect boxes, but instead of onomatopeia they say stuff like 'Break' 'Bleed' and 'Ow, my balls'. Someone gets stabbed to death right in the heart. Poison Ivy and Jason Woodrue have a psychedellic trip with tubers harvested from Swamp Thing's dead body, implying that this movie takes place in continuity with Alan Moore's Swamp Thing run.
and I could go on. Possibly the wierdest stuff about all of this is that the visuals and even the voice actors are all directly from the old 90s Batman TAS. It's like if somebody let the Venture Bros. guys do a two-part episode of the cartoon. How did this thing slip through the WB branding machine without getting hammered into shape with the rest of the boring forgettable DC animated stuff? I seriously wanna know.

To be honest, that sounds awful.

It was odd. Entertaining in spots, but just weird.

Yeah, between this and The Killing Joke, all I can say is that Bruce Timm has issues.

Yeah, between this and The Killing Joke, all I can say is that Bruce Timm has issues. A lot of fans lost faith with him with those two

A lot of fans lost faith with him with those two He's the kind of creator that works best with limits, people standing over him telling him what he can and can't do. His best work were the original Batman: TAS episodes on Fox Kids when censors were strictest with him. As the DCAU continued to KidsWB and then the Cartoon Network, there was a noticeable, although not extreme, drop in quality as he had less oversight. Then we get to these two movies where DC/WB basically gave him free reign to do what he wants, and we get this.

He’s got a ton of creative ideas, but only about 10% of them are any good and he needs someone to stop him from using everything that enters his head.

Woah woah woah, for all his problems, I'm not ready to lump Bruce Timm in with the likes of Frank Miller and Vince Russo. There's a difference between throwing a bullet and shooting a gun.

He kinda has the same issue though. Not saying he's awful, but I don't understand what he's doing currently. It's as if it's a blessing Batman: TAS wasn't on HBO back in the day..

It was better than The Killing Joke, hands down, but it was still kind of a mess.
That being said, I enjoyed my viewing of it. I am never going to give anywhere near a failing grade to a movie where Rob Paulsen and Rob Paulsen perform a duet. (A genuinely great rendition of Don't Pull Your Love)

It was terrible, but in general I think the DC animated movies have been excellent, and they’ve done a lot of them. A rare aberration.

This movie was billed as being a reunion/celebration of the B:TAS series. This movie could not have gone out of its way more to be anything but that... There's a fart joke that involved Batman and he's made to look like an idiot. WTF

I shut it off the second Nightwing lost a fight to Harley. I don't know why Nightwing is so dumped on by lots of writers, nor do I know why a nutty former psychiatrist is written like she was trained by Master Splinter. What I do know is that Nightwing shouldn't be losing fights to any non-super people for the most part. Dude has Batman training, police training, and is probably the most skilled acrobat in the DCU.

Oh, don't worry none, in HEROES IN CRISIS Harley fought Batman pretty much to a standstill and then Superman flew in and told Bats "She's as good a fighter as you." Not ironically. He really meant it.
