Sky Sports Arena has become Sky Sports Darts for the next few weeks during the World Darts Championship, so RAW and SmackDown will be moved about during this period. If you have them on series link, make sure you pay attention to these notes...

SmackDown December 18th Sky Sports Action - 1am Sky Sports Action - 11pm (repeat)
RAW Christmas Eve Sky Sports Mix - 1am Sky Sports Mix - 12am Boxing Day (repeat)
SmackDown Christmas Day Sky Sports On Demand - 1am Sky Sports Mix - 10pm (first repeat) Sky Sports Action - 10pm 27th (second repeat)
RAW New Year's Eve Sky Sports Action - 1am Sky Sports Action - 9pm (repeat)

Man, I know how over darts is nowadays, but being bumped for that must be like being bumped for that yearly dog show.

It must be a cultural thing, because seeing something bumped for f***ing darts blows my mind. Darts can’t even make it onto the ESPN2 lineup.

Darts is huge here, it does really well for the bookies. Brings in very good numbers for Sky, and the top players all have defined personalities. Phil Taylor retired last year, but Michael Van Gerwen has replaced him as the top guy.

Is there a better darts guy that is being overlooked for being the top guy that leads to Van Gerwen getting massive crowd heat?

I mean, none of it should really be a surprise, especially considering WWE in general is a tiny trivial part of Sky Sports lineup and has been for a really long time, only drawing hundreds of thousands and barely being advertised.
Hell, I very much reckon the new deal coming up is going to be substantially less because the last deal revolved around WWE’s PPV being highly promoted on Sky itself and then the Network came along so that itself didn’t make sense. Why encourage people to spend £20 on PPV when people were already spending just under £10 a month to get the Network?
The only reason Sky wouldn’t want to lose WWE is essentially, it’s extra content. Have a timeslot that needs filling and you’ve run out of Premier League history clips to show? Stick a This Week in WWE or WWE Main Event Clip Show and you’ve got it sorted. Even if it doesn’t do well, it’s something to tide the schedule over.

Hey, it's not Christmas until the Darts begins - it's the sporting equivalent of the Coca-Cola truck.

I see darts as even less of a sport than wrestling is.

Holy shit, I knew darts was big, but they're pulling f***ing full sports arenas at times... 6 months ago the PDC had a darts event at Schalke's football ground and sold 20,000 tickets for it. Darts is huge right now! Darts is the 2nd most watched "sport" on Sky Sports behind football. The final will be watched by over a million viewers. Also, unlike WWE, the darts is actually consistently entertaining!

I run a bookies and can confirm darts is a massive (and growing!) sports event, particularly to bet on. The PDC/Premier League Darts is one of the biggest things Sky have exclusive access to so when it's on, they go all in on it. A lot of people nowadays will subscribe to Sky just for the darts.
I personally don't get it myself, but I have run a concession betting stand at the Premier League Darts events and it is utter carnage inside the arena from start to finish, so I am not surprised at its increasing popularity.

Given how competitive the market is for broadcast rights to sport, the fact the WWE can offer hundreds of hours of programming every year, puts them in a great position. Sky have lost La Liga, the Champions League, major golf and tennis events in recent years. Any decent boxing event is on PPV. They can ill afford to lose the volume, regularity and in-built fanbase that the WWE has.

So it's settled. Ronda Vs Becky main events Wrestlemania, but not as a wrestling match, as a dart throwing contest
New boom period!

Darts is the only sport I watch other than wrestling. Clearly my taste is "sports other people don't consider real sports" 😂

They can ill afford to lose the volume, regularity and in-built fanbase that the WWE has. The only thing that puts a halt to that, again, comes down to simply about trust. You have to remember, we were pretty close to getting the WWE Network for around £6 a month on its UK launch and that was only because they wanted to call Sky’s bluff about giving them a new deal. A deal that was made redundant when WWE only promoted their stuff through the Network and made buying on Sky Box Office completely redundant outside of if you were a bar organizing a screening. Even with that amount of content and demanding exclusivity of Main Event, you’re not going to be a USA and turn around and offer more money when you’re already not getting much back outside of something to fill the gap on slots nobody is watching to start off with.

As soon as I saw Darts mentioned in the opening post I knew this would essentially turn into a Darts thread! They have a Premier League which fills out Arenas in the UK every year. Don't watch it as much nowadays but its always good entertainment.
