This movie causes me to have great empathy for the plight of the Jewish people in the United States come the Yule season. Not only do they have little choice but to grin and bare the Christmas insanity that runs rampant every eleven months, but the one time their seasonal holiday got commemorated in celluloid-it was this. Adam Sandler really must have been on a bender when he came up with this one. Its every bit as bad as Christmas with the Kranks, The jokes aren’t funny, the main character is a totally unlikeable jerk, and the voice acting is horrendous-which says something given how many of the characters are voiced by Sandler himself. Yet somehow I subject myself to it every year, some sort of masochistic tendency in me.

It’s crazy to me this film had a theatrical run. These days it’s probably just end up on Netflix or cable or something. And yea, silly as it is, I’ve got a weird penchant for it. Definitely a product of its time.

As a pre-teen Jew, I loved this movie.
As an adult, it's just dumb Sandler drivel. Like the earliest signs that his humor mostly has a shelf-life.

The animation is gorgeous but jeez Adam’s character is insanely unlikeable. Plus his voice for the old man he befriends gets super grating after about thirty seconds.

Horrible, right in the vein of Modern Day Family Guy when every character is just more annoying and/or unlikable than the next.

I remember watching this when my mom rented it a LONG time ago. I was entertained back then, but I haven't seen it since and it likely wouldn't hold up if I watch it again. I agree with one person that the high-pitched voice for the old man character got annoying after a while, but then there was the voice for the female character with a stereotypical Jewish accent. I liked how the main character was modeled after Sandler himself, but the character was unlikable and I couldn't sympathize with him when it talked about why he was that way. I can understand that he was bitter, but that was no reason to act like a dick.
Don't get me started on the TV spot when there was a parody song of "Lose Yourself" from Eminem. I can only guess because this movie came out around the same time as 8 Mile, and because this movie had the number 8 in the title, you get the idea.

I wonder if that guy ever wiped his ass with the wrong hand.
Yes.
I think that was the funniest part.
