at Night of Champions?
Now, did they have plans for a Nash vs. HHH feud for the world title? So they had to keep HHH strong? Or was it because they knew HHH was getting a rematch with Taker, so they had to keep him strong through the fall.
I'm really stumbling for an answer here.
Anyone?

I love HHH but he KILLED that Punk story in 2011. He had no business being part of it.

They kind of wrote themselves into a corner on it between the Triple H's job on the line stipulation and just making Punk a horribly unlikable character at that point who needed some humbling. They could've saved it if they had just committed to turning Triple H heel then but they didn't so instead you got Punk railing against a system that was being perfectly reasonable toward him.

They kind of wrote themselves into a corner on it between the Triple H's job on the line stipulation and just making Punk a horribly unlikable character at that point who needed some humbling. They could've saved it if they had just committed to turning Triple H heel then but they didn't so instead you got Punk railing against a system that was being perfectly reasonable toward him. Becayse WWE never re-hried anyone ever that was fired in kayfabe  |

The equivalent of the era?Absolutely,but Wrestling as a whole is/was just too small compared to when Austin was on top,so even if Punk had 100% of the audience crazy for him, he would have to double the audience to reach austin. |

Though I also think it had the most potential to reach that point than anything else since. I think Austin was a case of right place, right time. The Gen X stuff was at it's peak, and he was the poster child for everything they rallied around. While Punk's message also ressonated with the anti-1% crowds, I just don't think the way WWE presents itself allows for anyone to become bigger than the company. Ever since Lesnar left them in '04, they seem afraid to allow anyone to get there. Thus we get 50/50 booking, and 'married to the business' Triple H simmering that what gets too hot, since they know he won't be going anywhere. Even someone like John Cena was handcuffed from being the same guy that caught fire with the fans. It's brand first, everyone else distant second. |

It was just due to Triple H being petty enough to hurt Punk’s momentum because he deep down doesn’t like him. He probably was angry that of all people Punk was the one that was the most over in the company when he never liked him. So he had to try to put a stop to that. The guy is incredibly insecure for someone so successful. He just can’t stand the fact that certain guys are more talented than him. He still seriously has to tell himself that he’s on The Rock’s level when he was always two levels below him in terms of overall talent.

The match itself was a lot of pro wrestling schlock fun, I watched it with my casual fan friends and it was a hilarious time. I think it was a bigger failure in hindsight. I was willing to play along with the idea that CM Punk had to go to war with Triple H and his degenerate friends, but when it turned out that Triple H was the good guy the whole time and the whole "he texted himself" fiasco, the whole thing was dumb. Triple H turning heel, and Punk eventually beating him was the right thing to do.
