Another aspect of his legacy that gets torn to bits is the criticism he had for the African-American community to "better" themselves and become more moral. I mean, damn, dude. Eddie Murphy's stand up bit where he talks to Richard Pryor about Cosby's attitude is one of the better responses to it.

It's still one of the cable networks (someone said TVOne, which is probably it, but I thought I saw it on another one recently too), as is A Different World. (Oh boy, were those Cosby days a different world from this one.....)

I could see it having a resurgence once Cosby dies and can no longer profit from it. Probably still won't air the episode where Cosby makes that BBQ sauce or whatever that makes women horny. Yikes.
Polanski films still do okay because 1) it was like 50 years ago and the amount of people aware of it probably isn't even that high and 2) he doesn't really have a public persona that is so tied to the on-screen character like Cosby or Benoit. Most people couldn't tell you what he looks like, or would even realize that he is the little guy with the knife in Chinatown.
Benoit has the additional uncomfortable piece of every chairshot and headbutt you see feeling like a contribution to the deaths of his family.

Sadly, yeah. Cosby Show, Fat Albert, I Spy, any and all shows Cosby was involved with are damaged. Basically, how can we enjoy a show where off camera the lead is exploiting women? He wasn’t exploiting women, there’s a strong case to be made he might be the most prolific serial rapist of all time.

I’ll put it like this: members of my family who had been racist and yet managed to enjoy Cosby’s Show... acknowledged it was ruined once his terrible actions came to light. Meaning the shows quality managed to bypass whatever bias they had at the time but his exposed real life actions kinda ruined whatever appeal there was.
Personally, i stopped liking his shows as a kid but I just couldn’t picture myself watching it these days. It’s too ludicrous. This isn’t Chris Benoit wrangling around dudes, it’s Cosby coming off as this paragon of virtue and loveable Dad all whilst realizing dudes a sick bastard. It’s just too ridiculous.

The other day I was flipping through the channels, and The Cosby Show was on, one of the D list cable channels. And it was just at a part where Cliff was coming onto Claire, who was resisting him. It was icky, and made the show unwatchable.

I don't know how you separate the character from the person since Cosby himself co-opted that character as a way to tell black people not to steal pound cake?

Well, still better than the legacy of Leonard Part 6. How about the legacy of The Devil and Max Devlin?

As I said, the only regret is a pretty substantial part of TV history is unwatchable now because of him.

In the 90s, Rick James went to prison after he held a woman hostage for 3 days and forced her to perform sexual acts with him and his girlfriend. In the 2000s, Rick James appeared in a sketch on Chappelle's Show. Which of these acts do people remember?

(Oh boy, were those Cosby days a different world from this one.....) I believe "Bounce" still airs it. Or that other channel I'm vaguely familiar with "Centric", because its either Cosby Show or 5 hours of In Living Color.

Yep its beyond tarnished when the creator and lead actor turns out to be one of the worst serial rapists in American History.

This is kinda 2 questions.
It's legacy in will people watch it, will reruns be popular etc. That's done, beyond dead.
But it's place as one of the first black lead sitcoms and the cultural impact, I think that it'll still be studied academically because it was important.
It might take 10, 20, 30 years but it'll come back into the conversation. All this was only recently uncovered so it's incredibly raw but time changes things.

Whereas with Cosby was dozens of incidents over a matter of decades. That doesn’t excuse James at all, but robbing one bank isn’t as big a crime as robbing 50 in 20 years

The fact that it resulted in the spinoff A Different World, which was wildly influential during its run, keeps some of its legacy in tact. That show would go on to average 40 million viewers, was the top watched show in Black households and inspired a massive increase in enrollment in Historically Black Colleges across the nation. So without the Cosby Show, there wouldn’t be A Different World.

It'll be known as 'The show starring the rapist'. Jim'll Fix It was a beloved kids TV show but Jim was discovered to be the UK's most prolific paedophile and possibly necrophiliac so nobody cares if it was good show anymore.
