The merchandise and stuff is a bit over the top now. Same with the 24 hour thing. I love the movie, but if I can probably go 15 years without needing to see it.

Maybe its because I'm not a yank but I don't understand all the fuss about it.
I heard for years about how this was the quintessential Christmas movie, but a few years ago I got around to seeing it and I couldn't help but scratch my head and go really?

It became a tradition because of TV, much like It's a Wonderful Life. The film itself did okay, but it was when TBS decided to air it 24 hours straight on Christmas was when it started to become part of the tradition. I'm a National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation person, however.

I guess because of this, we get 24 hours of other stuff. IFC is doing 24 hours of Die Hard, hosted by Al Powell/Carl Winslow. And one of the Starz channels is doing 24 hours of Scrooged. Now those are better marathons. I remember years ago AMC doing 24 hours of Home Alone, and a couple of years ago one of the Starz channels doing 24 hours of Arthur Christmas.

My buddy told me one time, his father-in-law told everybody to pile in the car one year and said they were taking a trip. So his in-laws, wife, brother-in-law, and maybe a couple other people get in the car for a mystery trip.
They drive about two hours to the Christmas Story house. He said it was neat, and the tour guides let people play with the Little Orphan Annie Secret Society Decoder Pin. But you have to give it back to the guides, because when they used to just display it, people kept stealing it.

Likely the latter. I'm also hoping that they eventually release the deleted Flash Gordon scene.

Absolutey my favorite Christmas movie of all time with Christmas Vacation coming in a very close second. On Christmas Day we have it on while we are opening presents and it stays on all day till the end of the marathon. It’s become as much of a Christmas tradition in my family as putting up the tree is. When the did the live play on tv a couple years ago we decided to watch it. Dear god. The nightmares. They still haunt me

Likely the latter. I'm also hoping that they eventually release the deleted Flash Gordon scene. Forbes magazine "cracked the code" and said there's no possible way that's a real pin based on the settings and the resulting encryption. If you set it to B-2, then everything else should line up accordingly as if it were normal. (As B is the 2nd letter in the alphabet, so C should be 3, etc.) Looking at the pin closely, both the numbers and letters are in proper order. It's not like the letters are all out of whack. Yet the first 2 numbers are decoded in this setting as "LK". There are no words that start with these letters, they somehow create the word BE. (Another thing brought up was how Annie would never use the advertiser as the message. It was a serial and the secret message was a hint on what the next show was about. They already had 2 3-minute commercials during the 15 minute show. But it's all in fun, were not supposed to actually think that deeply. Even though my dad will always say he wished he still had his Captain Midnight decoder pin)

And this was a better ACS homage than the sequel and the live musical!

Sadly, if I remember one of the ACS books I've read, it may be lost for good :-( Something to do with them leaving that and other memorabilia from the filming at the locale where they taped the school scenes and those being discarded.

I think the musical is great, I saw a live production of it and it was a blast, but streching that out into a three hour live broadcast was a bit much.l Though then again I’m a bit of a die hard, I’ve been to the house, I own a leg lamp and a red rider.

Was it worse than/as bad as the Fox version? Remember when Boradway shows had their OWN storylines and ideas??? Nah, me neither. My brother for some reason watched "When You're A Wimp" on YouTube from the TV version. I nearly didn't forgive him for getting that song in my head for hours after ;-) ;-)
