As the title says, what is everyone's favorite album of this year?
For me, I had To Drink From The Night Itself by At The Gates at the top of my list for the longest time but then I finally got around to hearing A New Kind Of Horror by Anaal Nathrakh. And A New Kind Of Horror blows EVERYTHING out of the water this year.

For me, it's a difficult choice between Chris by Christine and the Queens and Be the Cowboy by Mitski.

They're local boys, but Rule of Two's self-titled album (or maybe EP since it's only 7 tracks?) is my album of the year.
Here's the opening track:

I have never been a huge fan, but I absolutely love The 1975’s A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships.
It’s a brilliant record.

Prequelle by Ghost. Holy shit I wasn’t prepared for that. Same. And even though I've only owned it for a day, Clockwork Immortality by Lovebites is definitely up there.

Eat the Elephant by A Perfect Circle.
I will admit it took a few listens but after awhile it really grew on me.
Delicious is still my favourite song as that one feels it could easily have been on Mer De Noms or 13th Step.

And A New Kind Of Horror blows EVERYTHING out of the water this year. that Anaal Nathrakh album was a huge surprise for me. To me they've been on a cycle for ten years of following an incredible album up with a complete dud, and I LOVED their last album the Whole of the Law. I was fully prepared to write this one off and wait for their next album so for A New Kind of Horror to be as awesome as it was was more than welcomed. If I had any problems with it it was that it ended rather anti-climactically and was way too short. Eat the Elephant by A Perfect Circle. I will admit it took a few listens but after awhile it really grew on me. Delicious is still my favourite song as that one feels it could easily have been on Mer De Noms or 13th Step. I agree that it took a few listens to appreciate but in the end it turned out to be a damn good album. I was really happy with that one. I love the last song Get the Lead Out. Some of the lyrics on the album are so funny. My Album of the Year is Efrim Manuel Menucks 'Pissing Stars' My top ten (baring me hearing anything else in the next week) is: 1. Efrim Manuel Menuck – Pissing Stars 2. the Body – I Have Fought Against It, but I Can’t Any Longer. 3. Jessica Moss – Entanglement 4. P.H.O.B.O.S. – Phlogiston Catharsis 5. Anaal Nathrakh – A New Kind of Horror 6. HIDE – Castration Ritual 7. Thou – the House Primordal 8. A Perfect Circle – Eat the Elephant 9. Archgoat – the Luciferian Crown 10. Profane Order – Tightened Noose of Sanctimony it was kind of a weak year for me. most of the best stuff I listened to was released in years prior

Perhaps only my favorite because of how shocked I was by how much I enjoyed it, but I've got to give a mention to Cardi B's Invasion of Privacy.

Idles' "Joy as an act of resistance" was a treasure of an album. just a big old ornery british punky steamroller of positivity with brilliant and timely lyrics and a nasty low-fi edge. first time my favorite album of the year wasn't a metal album.
honorable mentions to:
Deafheaven - Ordinary Corrupt Human Love Beyond Creation - Algorhythm Judas Priest - Firepower Thou - The House Primordial Imperial Triumphant - Vile Luxury Anaal Nathrakh - A New Kind of Horror (thanks for reminding me, OP) Daughters - You Won't Get What You Want

Granted, I've only listened to a third of them plus a demo compilation and an EP ( Total F***ing Necro demos, When Fire Rains Down From The Sky, Mankind Will Reap As It Has Sown EP, Hell Is Empty And All The Devils Are Here, In The Constellation Of The Black Widow, A New Kind Of Horror) so I'm not the most reliable expert on their work.

Ordinary Corrupt Human Love by Deafheaven would probably be my choice.
Beach House, Ghost, Behemoth, Robyn and Tribulation had some solid albums too.

Still have a bunch of albums I've been meaning to listen to, but my overall AOTY as of now is Where Owls Know My Name by Rivers of Nihil.
