This is the new Nostalgia Critic episode "Elf Bowling". channelawesome.com/elf-bowling-the-movie-nostalgia-critic/It's a really weird (I dare say pretty creative) movie and I've certainly seen worse CGI Christmas movies (like "The Christmas Light" that Phelous reviewed). The animation is even not-too-awful. But the interesting thing to note is that Channel Awesome is apparently leaving the office/"studio" space they've been renting in Chicago for a few years. I assume this is because they've fallen on hard times after the Mass Exodus of talent and can't afford it and aren't really using it for much of anything beyond Nostalgia Critic episodes so they can't really justify the cost to rent the building... and I'm not exactly shedding tears over that. I know Doug had grand plans to turn the space into a studio that others would sub-lease but realistically that was never going to happen. I'm sure Doug will continue doing Nostalgia Critics from his house with a green screen (and for such a simple show that's really all he needs for it anyway). Their profits must really be down compared to a few years ago. Good.

I thought they outright owned that studio space? I guess they can't afford to keep the lights on. It's not like they use anymore than 2 rooms.

I doubt they could afford to buy a building like that and even if they could it wouldn't make sense to buy when leasing would suit their needs and be much more cost-effective. Basically, this is a big sign that they're hurting. I'm sure they would have stayed there if they could still afford it.

Accorded to Their Twitter they moving into another studio Okay, that's kind of surprising. I wonder why? What do they need a studio for at this point? Anything they wanted to use studio space for (Demo Reel, Pop Quiz Hotshot, etc) has either failed or never got off the ground in the first place.

They so are not... They are a bunch of film fans with a few cameras, a green screen, and some cheap costumes and props.

It rumor that Doug wanted to make their town "the Internet Hollywood". It funny that James aka AVGN had more success filming out of his basement then Doug had in an actually studio.

They show the new place at the end of the recent NC Nutcracker review. They make it sound like it's bigger.

Maybe they got a bigger space for the same (or less?) money but what in the hell do they need a bigger space for? They already had more space than they needed in the building they were in.

Chicago is never going to be "The New Hollywood" and if he really thought he and his group was going to make that happen then he really is delusional. James has more talent and skill in writing, directing, and overall filmmaking than Doug by a wide margin. You can tell just by the effort that James puts into his work that he really does love movies and the art of filmmaking.

Mike is much worse than just an idiot. oh yeah don't get me wrong, interpersonally the guys is a monster. but a lot of Channel Awesome's production-related problems seem to go back to "Mike keeps trying to make things bigger and better and spends money on things he really doesn't need". like... the likes of Linkara and Brad Jones and even James Rolfe get the same or better production value just filming everything in their houses. buying a studio that barely got used by Doug and was never allowed to be used by anyone else is just the epitome of the waste the guy creates. and don't even get me started on that f***ing gameshow...

James is the one out of the group who would probably put some kind of studio space to actual good use with his movies.

Oh boy, give the review a watch at least. The movie looks absolutely bonkers - in all the terrifying so-bad-it's-bad ways. The new place looks bigger on the office end of it. It's got a few more offices (versus what I think was just 2 in the old one). Malcolm shows in the making of Nutcracker 3D episode that in addition to those rooms (and what looks to be maybe 2 or 3 more offices) they have a pretty spacious room just for props & costumes now.

Okay, I just watched the Nutcracker 3D review, and WOW! You weren't kidding... That is one strange, depressing movie. The CGI Nutcracker is really creepy, too.

If it's the same studio as the past, didn't they have problems with it not being properly soundproofed, among other issues that made it kinda impossible for its intended purpose? I remember Linkara or one of the others talking about that being a major botch of the studio space, though maybe it was someone else who said it, given Linkara was willing to use the studio for filming his movie, but Mike was pissy about it and wouldn't let him film anything there for his movie.
If so, maybe they're moving to a more appropriate venue or something.

Yeah, they had no idea how to properly soundproof anything and they were basically filming in a big empty warehouse space so that was a problem. They're all rank amateurs "playing" business people and filmmakers.
