I like New Day, but they've been spinning their wheels for a long time now. The pancake thing was never that funny, but it got over to a degree, so they've stuck with it. I can recall a few funny moments, like Kofi playing "Don't Touch the Lava" at the Rumble with them, and that one promo where Big E about lost his damn mind on The World's Okayest Tag Team earlier this year when they claimed to prefer waffles. I think New Day just got comfortable with the shtick. Another problem is they need something to do other than chase tag titles all the time, but WWE is lacking over tag teams, so they also are needed in the tag division, but on top of all that, they've faced the main teams on SDL so many times over the past few years.
I really wish instead of wasting MITB on Corbin in 2017 they gave it to Kofi or Big E. You could either break New Day up from that point after a betrayal cash-in, or you can have them Freebird the WWE title.
New Day might be the tag team John Cena. They might never break up.
I feel that way too. They make the company too much merch money and are usually well received by the live crowds. The people watching at home aren’t going to matter as much. Sure, their act is more stale than their pancakes but they get by with it.
WWE isn’t known for taking that many risks and I think the team knows if they were split up that would kill their overall popularity and earning potential. Putting Big E on one brand and keeping the others as a tag team on another brand would be a way to go. If all three went their separate ways they’re done. They’d all struggle in relatively obscure roles.
Together they make money and that’s the point of any job. They’re going to ride that train until it falls completely off the rails and I can’t say that I blame them. WWE will let them do it too. They’ve always had a “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it“ mentality. It’s very stale to a lot of fans but they’re getting by and the people in charge are ok with that so it is what it is.
