"It was a surreal moment because I was still very green as far as knowing the business, knowing about everything, and then meeting Vince McMahon where he's telling me that he saw my tape and asked whether I dance and I rap, in which I replied that I did, so he said that he wanted to offer me a contract. It still didn't dawn on me that I am going to get a real job. I have had one job in my life, my whole life and that was only because of work release to get out of jail so that I wouldn't see orange anymore. I have never had a job in my life. WWF is my second job in my whole life." R-Truth spent 13 months in jail due to selling drugs in his early 20s. As he mentioned, his only previous job was part of a work-release program until he signed with WWE in 1999. He was assigned to one of their developmental territories at the time, but it didn't really hit him that he was a WWE Superstar until he started getting paid. "At that time, it wasn't registering to me. It still wasn't registering to me until I saw those checks. Think about this, back then I was getting checks for probably about 3 to 4 months before they even sent me anywhere. I was at home getting checks and thinking that, okay, at any time they are going to call the cops on me and send me back to jail. I was thinking that it was all just a bit set up because they are sending me all of this money and I hadn't even done anything yet. I was scared. "I remember calling Johnny Ace telling him that I wasn't sure if they knew that they were paying me because I was sitting at home, but he just laughed and said that you are fine, we are getting things squared away. I was like, 'you know that I am cashing these checks and you are sending me all of this money,' but he assured me that I was fine. But it was like, once I got into developmental it was such a different world. Going from being in the streets and doing everything that the typical thing that guys from the streets do that have no outlook, or have nothing to fall back on or no types of dreams or goals, it was a different life for me. I took a hold of it. I held on and I am still riding it." www.wrestlinginc.com/news/2018/12/r-truth-on-meeting-vince-mcmahon-649172/

Give him a world title run. I'm serious. He's a feel good story. He is a Vince favorite. He can cut a promo.
If Jinder Mahal can be WWE Champion and if Brock can continue to kidnap the red title, Truth deserves a run!

Truth is the lowrcard guy who could pull off a shock Rumble win and get a huge pop, similar to how they teased with Santino. the pop for him winning the rumble would be huge.

If Jinder Mahal can be WWE Champion and if Brock can continue to kidnap the red title, Truth deserves a run! I've been wanting a Truth title run since I first saw him on Smackdown in 08. I always thought he looks like a star, and he's obviously talented and seems to be cool with doing whatever they give him.

Imagine all these years later being one of Vince's favorite guys backstage and essentially having tenure with the company where even when he retires he's gonna have a lifetime job with WWE if he wants it. Not just because of being friends with Vince, but consistently being funny, and consistently staying in shape and having a great workrate like an ageless wonder.
Truth's story really is amazing. I would love to see him actually win from Number 30 if I'm honest.

I think the biggest takeaway I've always enjoyed from R-Truth is the fact that he never seems to wear disappointment on his sleeve when he's out there in front of the crowd. No matter where he is on the card, he is out there entertaining in the same way he's always entertained people, especially after he found his "crazy conspiracy theorist" persona in the early 2010s.
There's plenty of people who become self-righteous, visibly annoyed at their match outcomes (hi, Sasha), or straight up will burn bridges with everything and everyone just because they feel like they aren't getting the spotlight like they deserve. Truth isn't one of those people. He's continually been getting pushes not because of his lineage or connections (Vince friendship nonwithstanding), but because of his work ethic and dedication to his craft. The guy knows he's lucky to be where he's at with the opportunity he was given, and never squanders it when given proper time on the mic:
Even if he isn't "WWE Champion" material necessarily, he more than deserves another mid-card title run sometime in the future.

R-Truth was one of the guys who I thought got lost in the shuffle a bit during the Summer of Punk era in 2011, he was such a fresh face in the heel scene and was doing some of his best work at the time. I would have liked to see his program with Cena go a bit longer.

I would have liked to see his program with Cena go a bit longer. He kinda did that to himself with the Wellness test. If he didnt get that he wouldve been a contender to the title and would likely have had another title match

I'd love to see them have Truth win the Rumble from 30. Plus, with his persona being crazy they could have him take his shot on an episode of SmackDown - it could free up the Elimination Chamber and Wrestlemania title matches if they didn't want him to win.

It all makes a lot of sense. Truth is fun to watch because the guy looks like he's always having the time of his life. And honestly it's probably because he is.

I remember watching him come in as K-Kwik. I also remember a match he had against the Dudley Boyz, where he did his backflip splits move and Bubba (charitable as ever) screamed out disgustedly "What the hell was that?!" from the ring apron.
Heh. Well, all these years later (and eleven in a row now for Vince), and Truth is still cashing those checks and hitting each day like his first. Major credit to him.

I also liked the part in the article where he talks about how great it was to be the first ever African-American to win the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship.

Truth is that dude. One of the great inspirational stories in this business. He’s lived several lives in less than 50 years

I honestly think if we don't get Truth winning the Rumble we will still have him take on Bryan for the title.
I don't think he will win of course and it may just be a filler feud to keep Bryan while they figure out his WM opponent but imagine the pop he will get if he wins the title.

R-Truth is my pick to win the Rumble. He and D-Bry have great chemistry on the mic and could put on a great program.
