Did anyone actually see this show when it was on? I had no idea it existed until a few years ago. It looks like... quite a radical departure from the Filmation He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe series...

Being a huge fan of the original Filmation cartoon when I was a kid I remember this coming on, watching one episode, saying "nope, not working for me" and never watching it again.
About ten years ago I marathoned the series on DVD from Netflix. I appreciated it a bit more. The heroes, outside of He-Man, are absurdly forgettable. I honestly don't remember any of their names or powers or stories anymore.
On the other hand, the villains were a really fun group that I wouldn't mind seeing more of in other Masters of the Universe media. Skeletor based on the Jack Nicholson version of the Joker was amazingly entertaining to watch, I really liked Crita and her "relationship" with Skeletor, and Flogg and Slush Head were both fun characters.

I saw it... it was not very good... and the character designs for hte most part were AWFUL Also He-man still pretending to be Adam doesn't really make much sense.

Only remember one episode where He-Man fought against paintings (I think?) coming to life.
Also remember Skeletor having a different design (grey armor and helmet of some kind). Did he have a power upgrade in the show or something because I don't remember the green face version at all.

The villain designs were so very, very ugly, not charmingly ugly like the original, just generic and bad. I think only one from the series really holds up, Optikk, the rest were just generic 90s cartoon grunts, even Skeletor in his original and revamped forms.

Seemed a bit late to go space opera with it. Return of the Jedi seemed to close the door on those for awhile. Probably too close to the old He-Man to be viable. Its hard not to get unfair comparisons when the old show was only a couple years cancelled and still heavily syndicated.
That said its nice that they tried to do continuing storylines instead of all one and done status quo is god like the old series.

It may seem like heresy, but I actually like the redesign they used for He-man himself. Yes, it was doofy, but so was bowlcut the barbarian.

I've seen it but I don't remember much about it.
That said the remake from the 00's was quite underrated.

Yeah, I had the toy of the 2nd version, it had a spring loaded waist with his arm in a perfect clothesline position and a lot of impact so he was a big part of my wrestling collection. The scuba guy had tons of articulation in his legs so he was all superkicks and hurricanranas.

thank god we got that badass reboot in the mid-2000s. That show holds up so damn well. I loved the way Mechaneck was used in particular. Man-at-Arms was a complete badass, Ram-Man's character and ESPECIALLY design was vastly improved (and didn't have those stupid spring legs), and Skeletor was competent and not meme-fodder.

In hindsight, I love the space reboot. At the time, I didn't really care for it and lost interest in the line after only 3 or 4 figures, compared to having literally 90% of the original line. Now though, I think the evil mutants are neat designs, and while I didn't like them giving him eyes in the animated version, I dug the idea of Skeletor becoming a cyborg. I will say this: The Classics versions of these figures that have come out over the last few years have been pretty damn sweet.

I remember seeing the toys - at my ol' Toys R Us (RIP) - and being repulsed by the complete reboot.
I'm one of those purists who wants to see the multitudes of supporting characters make the transfer to the new version. Pretty sure Skeletor and He-Man were the only ones to make the trip. I think I tried an episode or 2 and didn't care for it at all.
The 4 Horsemen/MOTU Classics figures appear to look excellent. I've been looking for an affordable Optikk for a while; had I ever seen that figure when I was a kid I'd have grabbed it.
(Weird factoid: the only place I ever saw the NAoHM figures at said TRU was in an aisle display at the front of the store, nowhere near the action figure section. Granted, it was probably moved later on to the figures area but I never remember seeing them anywhere but that one "higher visibility/please buy us" spot.)

The green face version was in early episodes, until "Sword and Staff" when they decided to change his look to one based on the "Disks of Doom" Skeletor figure: He would keep this look for the rest of the show's run, apart from losing the helmet in later episodes.

Sorceress appeared in some of the New Adventures mini-comics that came with the toys, and Teela guest-starred in an episode or two of the animated version. Oh, and King Randor and Queen Marlena cameo at the start of both the mini-comics and show, as much older versions than what we're used to. This toy line had some WEIRD figures though. Tuskador, Sagitar, ButtHead and Staghorn are just bizarre.

Gosh, I forgot to mention maybe one of the more interesting New Adventures tidbits I've heard -- there was a MOTU newspaper strip in the mid-to-late '80s (collected a year or 2 back by Dark Horse Comics in a treasury sized hardcover book), and apparently as it ended they actually bridged MOTU to New Adventures by having He-Man make his way into this New Adventures outer space future. I gained an appreciation for it when I learned this (sadly, when that Dark Horse book came out - NEVER knew there'd been a He-Man newspaper comic strip until 30 years later), and liked that someone in the chain of command thought *something* should be done to explain/link these 2 things.

The pilot/first episode of the New Adventures had why He-man was in space and such... also I am almost positive "Teela" was originally their design for She-ra.
