Ever since the dawn of gaming, the Superhero/Comic genre has had much more hits than misses, unlike it's movie counterpart.
The Batman: Arkham games seemed to be the end of that, but they've been all we have since their start, until Spider Man. The Infamous series looks to be done. The Lego games aren't really doing anything.
With the seeming conclusion of the Arkham series with Knight, what next? Nothing before or since has stepped up to the mantle, except for the very recent release of a console exclusive Spider Man game...so are we stuck in a dark-age for the forseeable future?
Whatever that Marvel project Square Enix has in the works looks like at least part of or answer, but we have no info or release date at this time. WB Montreal (Rocksteady too?) are working on DC games, but they likely are just more of the Arkhamverse.
Why haven't Marvel and DC put all of their resources into games like they did with movies and tv, when video games are hugely mainstream and popular? What will be the future of this genre in gaming?

Well, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3 is due to be released on the Switch in Febuary (I believe) so that's a series that's getting a second shot at life. I too, am sad at the lack of hero games these days (I don't count Lego...as much as I love Lego toys, the games are too cutie/silly for me, and I prefer a more realistic art style). I sort of wish they'd do a Super Hero RPG one day...something like in the vein of Skyrim...NOT MMO. It'd be fun to make my own hero and go out in a 3rd person point of view and fight crime!

I'm baffled why Ultimate Alliance and X-Men Legends were cancelled.
They were great and, unless I'm wrong, sold decently too.
Another great superhero game. Hulk Ultimate Destruction for the ps2. That was just pure fun.

Spider-Man took the Arkham games and blew the doors off it with it's fun, ease of access and traversal methods. I think from now on (including the next Spidey game we get) we'll see them try to switch the format up. Marvel's Games head did say Spider-Man is the "Iron-Man" of their games division so this is going to start a trend. I think they'll do well.
I personally wanna see an open-world Black Panther game in the vein of a GTA.

As stated they just revived Ultimate Alliance coming soon...
The Arkham team have been working on a super secret project that has been rumored to be any number of things... from what I remember they have stated that it is not another Arkham game and it is not "Superman" ... I would not be surprised if they are working on another DC hero or just flat out making a Justice League game...
Injustice 2 only came out like last year as well on the fighting game side...
Marvel have had a project just titled "The Avengers Project" that was announced but with no details at Square Enix for about two years... and SE have a multi game deal with Marvel.
(this is not counting the Mobile market where Marvel and DC have a ton of presence)
From what I remember Marvel stopped with action games for a while because people kept treating them as movie licensed games and they were all pretty terrible... but they have a bunch of games that are released in some fashion in the pipeline.
DC characters also have the added hitch of just how powerful they tend to be... A superman game would leave little room for progression and still let you feel like Superman unlike how with Batman you can throw new gadgets at him.

Isn't there going to be a Daredevil game? Or was that just rumored?

A two player Heroes for Hire game with Luke Cage and Iron Fist is needed after their second seasons.

They should make a Devil May Cry/Bayonetta style game featuring Wonder Woman, IMO.

I think progression in a Superman game would have to be done by age. Start off as smallville level and work up to Darkseid

What I really crave are games tailored to characters rather than generic games starring superheroes. That's why the Arkham series and Spider-Man PS4 were so good, because they were built around the character rather than just slapping the character into a bland game. For instance:
Superman Returns, while not a great game, had one fantastic idea. Instead of Superman having a life gauge, Metropolis did. That way Superman can be invincible as needed, but the game still had stakes. Tons of room to build on that.
Heroes for Hire could work really well as a Rockstar style game. Open map, the ability to take on new cases and missions, and racking up money to advance your characters.
Daredevil could work really well on the Spider-Man engine with some Arkham influence.
Doctor Strange? The possibilities there are endless.

Spider-Man took the Arkham games and blew the doors off it with it's fun, ease of access and traversal methods. Eh... I loved Spider-Man but I don't like it as much as Arkham Asylum and City (mixed on Origins, it's definitely better than Knight). It's still a damn good game but I feel like its much more clunky and overall generally useless stealth and not quite as fluid combat drag it down in comparison.

It's still a damn good game but I feel like its much more clunky and overall generally useless stealth and not quite as fluid combat drag it down in comparison. I gotta disagree because as much as I liked the Arkham games Spider-Man just felt better. There were a few times with City and Knight that I dropped off for a bit and when I got back into the swing of things it took longer for me to get adjusted. With Spider-Man I didn't feel that way. It took me a short amount of time to get back to what I was doing. I also think the swinging in Spider-Man and traversal methods were just more fun and more superhero-like compared to the Arkham titles. Same with the overall story. The only thing I think the Arkhams did better than Spider-Man is complexity of the combat. With the Arkhams you could set up a room and dismantle opponents one by one like Batman usually does. Spider-Man on the other hand, I rarely did that. I ran into most battles and figured it out on the go which makes sense but from a combat perspective it was a bit lesser. Different strokes for different folks.

Isn't there going to be a Daredevil game? Or was that just rumored? Would the game just be a black screen? or in how he views the world and environment, through his enhanced senses? it would look pretty unique too, like MIRRORS EDGE but with splashes of colour and vibrancy, and using the senses to see different things .....

A two player Heroes for Hire game with Luke Cage and Iron Fist is needed after their second seasons. That would actually be a cool way to wrap up the Netflix saga. Have all five heroes that you switch between levels, like the Spidey Shattered Dimensions game. Luke Cage and Iron Fist could have hack n slash/old school beat 'em up types stages with different fighting styles. Daredevil could be more stealth/platforming action. Jessica Jones could be more puzzle-based action, maybe with some LA Noir-style investigation sequences. Punisher would be shoot 'em up stages.

Given how entertaining the PS2 Punisher game was, they should definitely do a Ghost Recon Wildlands type game with him in it.

It really sucks that Gazillion went to shit by intervening and pushing David Brevik out of power because I was with this game since the beta and this was such a solid game paying so much love to the entire marvel universe and was coming along well untill the above happened ...and things just snowballed....with characters no longer being done on time , patches taking forever...thus delaying new content etc.
So I am REALLY hoping that with Ultimate Alliance being ressurected on the switch that atleast PS4/xbox get another x-men legends game...especially now with Marvel getting the license back completely.

It'a weird because I was discussing this on Facebook. Playing Assassin's Creed:Odyssey as Kassandra I could see the beginnings of a cool Wonder Woman game. Mix AC: O with God of War and you could have a really cool game.
