"Oh man, a whole lot is going on, I would say, and nothing all at the same time, and I know wrestling fans maybe don't want to hear this, but I've been loving being off. I think maybe wrestling fans want to hear, like, 'I can't wait to get back and I miss everything,' but I don't know. I had both shoulders operated on. I don't miss it! What is up with that?"
"Maybe I'm overstating my lack of desire to return. I do miss performing, but like Jericho said, I've been doing this a super long time. We're on the road a lot. I just know that when I'll be back, I'll probably enjoy it. But I'm not sitting there itching and clawing to return. And I don't know that my employer will want to hear that, like, 'does this guy not care?' But, no, I'm not even close to being cleared. I need a couple more months!"
"It was really when the second one started getting bad I considered taking time off. I was a little concerned for other people's safety. If I can't catch someone or bodyslam someone...I'm starting to get a little worried about it and it was really when the MRI came in and it confirmed my worst fears, which is something was torn because I thought, 'oh, it's just bothering me.' And we're on the road so much just trying to maintain, but then there comes a certain point where it's like, 'this isn't going away' and so at a certain point, you have to confront it."
"I swear to God, this whole time off, maybe that's why I haven't really been drooling to get back. One, because I knew I had a long road ahead of me, but also, in this time off, it's more time than I ever had to just stop and think, and just think about everything. And Jericho knows, me already. I'm already somewhat of a pensive person, right? Right, I don't know. I just think about things. And now, I have more time to think about broader things, but also more time for introspection."
"Now I'm at the PC doing my rehab. I don't try to, like, pass on knowledge and what's great is I don't feel, it is a part of the wrestling culture and that respect, but, like, I genuinely go trying to keep my ego in check. So I walk in the PC and no one's kissing my ass and I don't care. It's great!"

Guy probably hated his booking as much as, if not more than, the rest of us. Heel Sami turned out to be terrible. I hope when he comes back he and KO are both faces.

Can't see this going over too well with management although I understand why he feels that way. It is kind of sad that the only time these guys get time off is when they are injured.

Maybe he came to terms with being an ok talent and just sees it as a job now. I can't blame him. Vince probably hates him 🤣

They played this on Raw the other week and Owens had one too, I'd guess they'll still be heels and a tag team but who knows maybe they'll do a swerve and one or both them turns face when they come back

If he comes back as a face I could genuinely see this being part of a feud with Drew McIntyre, because this fits into his whole "guys have no passion" shtick.

I think Owens will come back as face to settle his score with Lashley, since they wrote KO out to turn Lashley heel. I can see them forcing Zayn as a heel again, sadly, but I'd rather see him feud with a heel Ambrose over the IC title.

If he's not doing a little bit of working here, then that's a lot like what Punk experienced near the end of his run: finally got some time off due to injury, found himself just happy sitting on his couch and fully unwinding for what might've felt like the first time in over a decade.

Yeah, it’s easy to forget (mostly because of our commitment to the gag of “El Generico and Sami Zayn are separate people”, and yes I know that will likely be referenced in response to this) that Zayn was probably THE busiest person on the indies before he signed with WWE. Dude was travelling EVERYWHERE for matches, making adopting the WWE schedule look like a lateral move at worst. I also don’t ever recall him having an injury absence at any point before WWE.

This was an interesting interview especially where he talked about how during this time off he’s been working on being a better person and he fears going back to the toxic wwe atmosphere may jeopardize that work he’s done and he’s not sure what’s gonna happen when he returns but he doesn’t want to be a hypocrite to his own values.

I don't recall Sami ever being injured. Nor Generico for that matter, prior to his untimely death. Those poor orphans. I can understand why Sami enjoyed the time off, he's always been fully invested and he uses his as an extension of his self which is tiring when everything is going right. I can only imagine how exhausting it was when his storyline was going nowhere, and he got sent home from a tour. Needed the break to find himself as much as heal is my guess.

Owens and Zayn back as heels. Hell, I expect the three to team up on Raw before Mania with no explanation or reference to prior events.

That was a great podcast episode. Zayn feels like he's in a better mental state.

I'm in the minority but aside from the Lashley stuff i actually liked annoying douche Zayn.

I'll have to give the podcast a listen.
It's refreshing hearing an honest answer from a wwe signed wrestler on this subject. I'd imagine for Zayne it's pretty much been non stop touring and wrestling for years and years ever since he started in the Indies so it's not unreasonable to be enjoying a bit of time relaxing at home when you've been go go go for so long.

Considering the crap he was doing after WrestleMania this year, who can blame him?

As a guy who toured with a band for two years, I totally get it. The road sucks. The gigs were amazing but the rest sucked. I hope Sami finds a compromise that works for him.

I mean, I GET where his head's at, I do, but man, hearing one of your all-time favorite guys basically say "Nah, don't really miss it" is....kind of a morale breaker.
