It was literally Punk and a bunch of unproven goobers. But Punk tried and it was my favourite look Punk ever had. [ So much better than Slicked back or Bald Punk

I think the New Nexus part of the Rumble is the single biggest low point of any Royal Rumble. The match just grinds to a complete dead halt for WAY too long.

Probably the worst stable of all time.
Next to The Corre of course.

Wasn't he just coming off his Straightedge society run where Big Show made him look utterly pathetic? I had trouble buying the New Nexus as any kind of threat because of that and the fact that the original one had ended up flopping so hard. Has any "new" version of something ever measured up to the old?

It was a fun era, I suppose, and I enjoyed it, but when I think back to it all I can think of is that camera holding way too long on Husky Harris being flogged.

To my mind this was Punk's best work on the mic, in the ring and as a character.

CM Punk smiled and nodded at my leftover Nexus sign at a house show so that was my favorite part of the New Nexus.

Paul Jones' Army in 1986 JCP. youtu.be/Rok1mB93n3YVon Raschke looks & sounds like he’s about 70 years old there. They were always kinda funny to me. Jones feud with Jimmy Valiant pretty much never ended.

I remember some backstage segment I think after they won the tag titles where the only thing Mason Ryan said was “New Nexus” like seven times. It was hilarious.

I think the New Nexus part of the Rumble is the single biggest low point of any Royal Rumble. The match just grinds to a complete dead halt for WAY too long. and then in the leadup of the rumble they were basically hyping a Corre vs. Nexus clash... it happens for like 3 minutes... the Anonymous General Manager threatens to disqualify everyone... and that's the last we hear about it. It did give us "The People's Choice" Mason Ryan... as well McGillicutty and Otunga being the 2 person Nexus for like 6 months.... but other than that it was not a very good stable.

I think the fact they were all newbies and nobodies worked in their favour see. As mentioned, Punk had already had the SES, and he was post Jeff Hardy feud at this stage. Everybody on roster knew Punk, nobody was going to kayfabe fall for his shtick.
But a bunch of newbies looking for their shot, not being led by another newb, but by a former world champion with huge success. Their heads would be turned and none of them would challenge for his leadership.
Punk sitting crosslegged in the ring surrounded by his minions with the biggest smug grin on his face during the Rumble is a tremendous moment and his match with Cena when Ryan debuted was his best ever to my mind.
