Mulligan's return to the WWF during this time was a bit weird, but this is why he was there - to head cards as they started making their way into his long-time territory home. Stacking the card didn't hurt. Not sure how the audience would have taken to a fake Funk in the semi-main, especially one that they recognized as former local champion Jesse Barr.
Orton didn't really seem to try as hard in the WWF as he had elsewhere, and I bet even at his best, he couldn't have dragged too much out of the Kirch.
And on the other side of the country, the company's other New Year's Day effort. Also pretty stacked, but interesting to see that it drew woefully less than the Florida show, which had to be seen as the B-card of the two.
Also interesting to see the Hart Foundation split up on different shows. Lot of tag team padding as singles matches on both.
This was a heel vs. heel main event with Savage and Jake. Jake would fight strictly babyfaces for another week after this, then started working heels like Bundy in anticipation of his upcoming babyface turn (filmed at the end of the month and shown in February).
Now that I think about it, Hercules/Adonis would have been a heel vs. heel match too. Wonder why they went with that on the card.
That's a pretty sad card for Portland. Wow, that's bad.
Long night for Mike Miller, who worked three matches.
What the hell is the Salem City Championship? Never heard of it and it's absent from Wikipedia's PNW entry's list of titles.
Cocoa Samoa = the original Sabu (the one that fought Lawler in Memphis)
Tama Samoa screams "Anoaii" but alas, no seeming connection.
Seriously, that card sucks.
First half of this card feels like a studio JTTS television taping, but the last three matches make up for it.
Bubba was getting fast-tracked into a program with Dusty at the time. The two would end up tying for most Bunkhouse Stampede wins during the series and had a cage match to determine a winner.
Someone needs to find that goofy commercial Horner made for BC Powder.
Only one match's results survive for this card, apparently. Interesting match for sure. Brody and Bad News are a pair I would not want pissed off at me at the same time.
Luger and Brody were about three weeks away from the infamous cage match.
Simmons was only three months into his career here, having his first match in October of '86.
