Was his last WWE appearance, technically, the Summerslam anniversary doc? He was the host of WWE Story Time, so I think that would be, right? Oh, okay. I didn't know if there were new episodes up, yet.

I always watched The Gimmick Battle Royal from Mania for the shits and giggles of it and now knowing both Heenan and Gene are gone really makes that bittersweet
But good god does Heaven have a hell of a commentary team and hosts up there right now to get right down to the action.

This is a bad way to start 2019. I wasn't expecting this at all because I didn't know of him being in ill health. He's the best wrestling interviewer of all time and I don't think there will be another interviewer who will be as good as he was. He, Gorilla and Heenan were the voices of my early days of watching wrestling and the fact that they're all gone hurts. I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing about Gene. He will be missed. RIP Mean Gene!

If The E doesn't produce a 3+ hour compilation of The Best of Mene Gene of the network, I just might cancel it.

RIP Mean Gene.
Hadn't he had liver or kidney issues in the past few years, or am I misremembering?

Did not expect to see this news...
RIP to the best interviewer in WWE history.
I met him at Wrestlecon a couple of years ago and he was incredibly friendly and witty.
RIP

Thinking about it, we only have 3 major voices of WWF in the 80s left.
Vince Ventura Finkel.
...yeah Mooney's around, but I said MAJOR voices.

Him and Finkel were essentially the hype men of WWE. One of the major players in the wrestling business. He made it seem so legitimate and as said before, helped wrestling go mainstream
Thanks for everything Gene. Back to you.

Oh dammit no. One of the true great personalities in wrestling. And I'll say it, as much as I loved him in the WWF, I remember him almost more fondly from WCW - he helped make that product more familiar and comfortable to me as I was starting to branch out and watch other stuff than WWF. RIP Mean Gene. Feel free to take part in as many Brain/Gorilla commentated matches up there as you want now... I think his role in the growth of WCW is understated. As soon as he started doing the Control Center hype videos for the WCW PPVs, they instantly felt more big league than they had in the past. I loved watching Worldwide in 1999-2000 because Mean Gene got to do a ton of backstage interviews with midcards like he had in the 80s WWF. Very sad day for long time fans. RIP Mean Gene.

I am so glad he came back last year for Raw 25 to interview AJ. Though I wish he spoke more in that segment, just seeing him on Raw again in that capacity for AJ of all people (a WCW vet) was cool as hell.
Mean Gene is one of those guys that all wrestling fans know to some capacity. He was that one-of-a-kind voice that added legitimacy to whomever he was working for. One of the biggest losses in wrestling history. R.I.P. Mean Gene
