I know there’s a lot of hullabaloo about WWE’s writing but maybe the problem with the show is that it’s look is old and boring.
I kinda thought about this when I was watching a random Raw from 2002 and HBK mentioned that he had been gone for 5 years. 5 years and WWE had changed drastically almost twice since Shawn left at the very beginning of the Attitude era.
How crazy is that? In 5 years the show looked and felt like decades had passed.
What happened 5 years before 2018? It’s like 75% the same guys in the same gimmicks!

I mean the roster is different and NXT took off, plus the network, but yeah I feel you. Same look. Doesn't feel like any different "eras" took place during the last decade.

They should add slides to the entrances.

Yeah, the set itself and stage layout also have been pretty similar since the Attitude Era, along with a lot of the camera work.
Meantime you go back and watch 1985 WWF, then 1990, then 1995, then 2000, and it's like watching four different promotions, from the presentation style to the camera work to the sets to the talent. Doesn't mean each era was good, but there was at least an attempt to do things differently.

The Shield broke up nearly half a decade ago and everything is still nearly identical beyond the roster and a brand split, lol.

Dark crowd like the Evolution PPV would be a nice change.

Where as Shawn was gone the same amount of time and pretty much missed the Attitude Era entirely so he was came back two "eras" after leaving.

I’d be in favor of a moat with the wrestlers getting to the ring in canoes and then jet ski’s at Wrestlemania.

I get it, but I'm unable to really think of what can actually be done to change the general look of the shows short of maybe changing the position of the main hard camera and making the stage design more minimalist. The position of the hard camera with the wrestling ring perfectly horizontally aligned in the middle is something that's been a constant through all the eras of televised WWE wrestling, are we aiming for something more isometric like in the Fire Pro games?

No, but I really think they could do more with their ringside cameras to create a more cinematic presentation. Having a hard cam is pretty natural, but there are so many other things that could be done to make the talent and matches feel more important and impactful.

They did change the sets up a bit, but it's still the same basic set concept for Raw since the Attitude Era (Big Titantron above the entrance ramp with two banner things to the sides). The one thing I miss from the pre-HD sets was Raw and Smackdown each having their own distinct sets. Since the HD sets were introduced it's been the same set for both Raw and SD (and a lot of PPV's for that matter) with different colors and graphics.

I made a thread about this here in the past.
1990 to 1995 was a massive difference. 1995 to 2000 was a massive difference. Even 2000 to 2005 was different.
However, go back and watch some Raws from 2009 on theNetwork and honestly tell me it doesn’t look exactly the f***ing same, save for a few minor tweaks here and there like the LED board on the ring.
WWE’s problem these days isn’t just the writing. The production sucks ass. NXT’s production is perfect and modern. This “squeaky clean” HD Raw has always sucked. A show called “Raw” should look.... well, Raw.

There's clearly a different filming technique done there compared to the standard WWE show. Could the lack of change in the last decade be also down how the technology in broadcasting and production hasn't evolved as rapidly as it did back then? I watch a lot of old school IndyCar racing on YouTube, and the differences between a 1985 broadcast of a race and a 2000 broadcast of a race are staggering, but the differences between 2000 and 2015 are minimal at best.

Cena left, came back, and the first thing he says to McIntyre is "Everyone always cuts the same tired promos on me"
So yeah it's such an endearaing way to sell your product is stale as dogshit. I really hope AEW gets a TV Deal.

Every aspect of WWE is an over produced mess.
The in ring product is particularly awful.

I really hope AEW gets a TV Deal. It's true though. It's more fake and phony if they just put the fingers in the ears and say "Everything is perfectly fine." it atleast shows that one person in the company realizes everything is stuck in a rut.

I've never seen a time period in the WWE where it's become so hard to pinpoint when certain things happen and that's mostly due to the presentation, format, style, it's just weird. It's times like these that make me enjoy watching older WWE eras. Every once in a while I watch some New Generation stuff and love it because it's got a certain feel to it. Yeah some of the stuff isn't great but it's embedded in a certain time period that you can watch and go "ok, I know when THAT happened."
Today's different. This past decade's looked so similar it's hard to tell and I hate that. It's like a long running anime where there's no timeskip.
