Bret was the better in ring worker, Flair was the better character, to the point Richard Fleihr was consumed by the Ric Flair persona.
Bret edges it as my favourite overall as Flair became too reliant on things like the Flair flop and blading in the latter third of his career. He became a parody of the dirtiest player in the game.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ric Flair made me a fan but Bret kept me as one.
Just noticed it's an old thread I'd already contributed to. Duh. Odd, given how I hadn't voted.

It's a damn shame we got robbed of the following feuds post Survivor Series 1997: Austin (Wrestlemania 14 dropping the title and making him a star, ending the storyline once and for all) The Rock Jeff Jarrett Triple H (DX) Road Dogg and Bad Ass Marc Mero Ahmed Johnson Cactus Jack Dude Love Kane Heel Undertaker X-Pac Ken Shamrock Dan Severn Steve Blackman Edge Jeff Hardy Matt Hardy Val Venis Mark Henry Based on in-ring, Bret would've elevated all those guys in 1998. That's the one thing the WWF was missing in 1998, a ring general. He would've cement himself as a top 3-5 all time wrestler, if he got a chance to work with these guys in 1998.

I like Hart more, but damn, this poll should be closer. Not fair to Flair.

I grew up with the WWF so I never saw Flair until he debuted in 1991 (I knew of him but never saw him on a consistent basis). However looking back, I’d say I prefer Bret matches but Flair was the more exciting promo/character. Can’t really go wrong with either choice. Bret as a white meat babyface wasn’t my cup of tea but the 1997 heel version was money. Flair’s promos and character age really well, as he seems to have gotten more popular in time.
Flair the entertainer and Bret the in-ring worker would be my answers.
