Which was ironically the point of the post: fan ignorance (not saying you're ignorant, necessarily). Yeah we can all agree that botching/injuring is a bad thing and requires more hours at Performance (bet these types wish she was there when Bill DeMott was still there, huh? Ooooh! Or Bob Holly!) But to treat Nia, who doesn't seem like a bad person, like she committed mass murder? SMH. I wonder if Seth Rollins got this kind of abuse when he injured...too many to remember? (it would explain why he's become such an asshat to fans...) My ignorance depends on where you fall on this whole thing, because I am definitely pro-Nia. She made a reckless error but her injuries list is definitely not that long and in this industry not turning it into an angle, particularly as the fanbase gets smarkier every day, would be stupid. The fans want to see Becky kick Nia's ass. She's not being rewarded for her recklessness, they are turning lemons into lemonade, which they are usually quite bad at. I get the sense you agree with me though... Yeah, I’m pro Nia as well. She’s made multiple errors, yes, but they were just that. Errors. No need to make fat jokes, call for her head on a stake, or hell, wish death on her. I seriously saw so many think that Nia punched Becky on purpose? Like, if you look at her Instagram or her segment on WWE 24, she’s clearly liked by her peers and co workers and comes across as a genuinely good person. If you call getting your comeuppance in multiple angles since turning heel a “push” then idk what to tell you. It’s not like she’s playing a babyface or anything. The whole point of her character is her thinking she’s tough shit just because she punched Becky in the face and now is getting too big for her britches by trying to fight the men. It has nothing to do with her being a part of “DWAyNeS” family. |

They are. People's willingness to say such reprehensible things because they now have a direct communication line with celebrities and they have no major risk of repercussion for saying it is a really disgusting thing. Which is why I fully support these people who make the effort to expose those who say this kind of stuff. While I appreciate it's always upsetting to read this about yourself, swipe back. Retweet it and turn your followers against them and make an example out of it. I can never understand when Jimmy Kimmel does the Mean Tweets bit and has people's Twitter handles blurred out. They aren't posting private info. This is clearly visible on Twitter. Let these people face up to it. That's how you get it to stop. Yeah mob mentality is kind of overkill but public shaming unfortunately is the best course of action. I agree with your post, except I think the kimmel thing is to avoid giving the crazies any sort of notoriety or 15 minutes of fame. They dont deserve it and it may entice people to up their game. Granted a quick search of what you saw will bring up user, but their handle isnt on tv garnering followers. People gave "face **** me Finn" lady pseudo celeb status FFS. I think the only reason I say make them public is through personal experience with a friend. The Wimbledon women's final in 2013 between the attractive Sabine Lisicki and the admittedly more plain looking Marion Bartoli wasn't really a shining moment in objectification of female athletes. Even a BBC radio commentator caught shit (deservedly) for making some stupid comment about Bartoli after shed won. The quote was: “Do you think Bartoli’s dad told her when she was little 'You’re never going to be a looker? You’ll never be a Sharapova, so you have to be scrappy and fight." So young male English Twitter was fawning over Lisicki throughout the tournament and at one point this friend of mine tweeted something during the final about how Bartoli looks like a sweaty man or something to that effect. Some Tumblr blog dedicated to public shaming caught him amongst some other similarly needless comments and their followers went in for the kill to the point where he deleted his original account, made his next one private and never did that again. Point being, you as a WWE superstar have the option to have some control in this. She retweets one of these messages and her weirdly obsessive fans (because for some reason all major WWE names have them) will step up and harass these trolls away. Is it the most ethical thing I'll ever suggest? No. But public shaming is all the rage right now and you have no obligation to be nice to someone who tells you to kill yourself for no other reason than they think there's no repercussion to it. |
