I guess I never really thought about this because I'm still a pretty regular viewer of the product they put out. A friend of mine, we've been friends for like 25 years. He was a huge fan during the attitude era and continued to watch but as the years have gone on he has kinda fallen away from being a fan. He kinda watches here and there that kinda thing.
So I have to ask this because it's something I'm not sure what to think about. Anytime he watches, especially if it's something like the Rumble. I will get 50 texts about how the show is boring and shitty. Ok I get that, I can see where it's easy to think it's boring. But the stuff that catches me off guard...is then it will devolve into a conversation about how the womens revolution is terrible. How he doesn't want half a show of womens matches, the womens rumble was the most boring thing ever, and then the Nia Jax thing happened....
I guess my question is, is there a portion of the fan base that feel this way?

Yes. This is how it is with all media.
It's depressing, but true.
Frankly I think WWE has been doing a better job with the women than it has with the men for a year or more.

The other day the convo literally ended with him telling me they should just fire the womens roster because they don't have enough time for all the guys and no one cares about womens wrestling, it's a waste of time. Then he told me that the attitude era needs to return because this crap sucks.

yeah it's sad but true, womens matches for years had the reputation as the "piss break" match and even though there has been lots of great womens matches in the last 5 years or so, some people still can't get over it.
Personally I love that the women are getting more time to shine, the Royal Rumble this past Sunday, an argument could be made women were involved in some of the best parts of it and Evolution last year was one of the better PPVs

Women are currently the best thing in the company.
But not all of the women are currently the best thing in the company...

Women are currently the best thing in the company. But not all of the women are currently the best thing in the company... Yeah. This. A million times this. Also, older fans (particularly of the Attitude Era) were conditioned for years BY the WWE that women were sexual objects/valets/mangers so for them to hop back on and not buy into the women’s revolution off the bat isn’t shocking.

The women on the main roster are the best thing they got going
If you thought Asuka/Becky was a piss break and you found that boring than idk what to say because the main roster women have been bringing it for a few years and NXT was their platform before that

I'm 31 years old and I have a fair share of grimace-worthy memories watching women in WWE for most of my teen years. I'm not the age they're going for with this, I'm not a little girl who will be inspired in the same way, but I've still found myself overwhelmed by amazement and pride that after all of these years, a womens' match is going to main event Wrestlemania and can only imagine how actual little girls may feel watching it. But I'm not surprised that people unfortunately feel like your friend.

It sounds like he just thinks less of women.

I think people overcompensate because they feel the need to “make up” for the attitude era. The matches are mostly bland and they don’t really have a story. If not for Rhonda they would be still opening the show and most of them should be.

I think people are predisposed to assuming that most athletic endeavors, involving women, are just naturally inferior to those same endeavors, when performed by men. In some cases, that’s true. There’s a reason no one watches the WNBA. But that’s just not the case with professional wrestling. Women can be, and at this moment are, more entertaining than the men.

I think some of it, is he's one of those guys who the best time of his life was high school....I graduated in 99 him in 00, so I think at least half the bitch is he wants things to be the way they were then.

I honestly don't care what's between your legs. If you can work, get out there and work.

So your friend basically.. ATITUDE ERA1! WUZ AWSUME LANGERY PILLOW FIGHTS! WHOO HOO! LOL, maybe a bit he was a fan of guys who could work in the attitude era also though...I think in some ways he uses that as a crutch because he doesn't like how the product has changed in general. Like the biggest critique is that it's boring, promos suck, no good characters.

It takes training and conditioning, and WWE is slowly but surely getting the audiences receptive. Becky deserves a lot of credit, but there's no way she could be lighting the world on fire if it was the same place we were at in 2004 or something.

I've only been watching again for a few months, but the women's division is the most compelling aspect of the product right now. I'm more interested in the WWE women's division right now than I've been interested in anything WWE for probably 10 years.
I just finished watching all the 2018 PPV's and the thing I noticed is that most of the women's matches are emotional and actually remind me of old school wrestling where I could actually suspend disbelief enough to think I was seeing a fight, whereas the men's matches seem more like choreographed dances where they are just out there hitting their signatures and doing a bunch of false finishes for pops.
Your friend is an idiot, OP.

I have zero shame in saying that for years I would never watch the women matches at all. Trish and Lits were alright but remember the years of the likes of Kelly Kelly? I didn’t give a damn she was attractive as if I want to see attractive woman I can look elsewhere, I watch the wrestling for the wrestling.
But I don’t belive I was being sexist, it was that 95% of the women were models and they were pretty awful.
The last year or so though? I don’t go out of my way to watch much of the product other than some of my favourites, the top guys and that but I have watched the women and some of them are fantastic. Sasha is a great athlete, so is Charlotte and I love Ronda. So they are definitely worth your time.
In the past it was a combination of them sucking and also being used badly or not at all, or barely at all. “Here come the women for a 4 minute match”.
Now they’re doing really well so I do watch them
