Batman has such a rich rogues gallery that you don't have to keep going back to the Joker.

Makes sense he should be the focus tho obviously you have an extensive rogues gallery to use

I'm kind of of mixed opinions on it. You definitely can tell excellent stories centered on Bruce and it is a nice change of pace having an adaptation actually primarily concerned about him for once, but there is kind of a reason a lot of Batman stories tend to end up focusing more on the villains since there's such a dynamic and wonderful set of characters in their own right who often have a ton of interesting ways you can play them.

They ultimately need to fit into each other Riddler with his clues and ambitions was a good start to the detective angle and looks to have made Batman embrace Bruce. Now you need a villain that will bring out more of Bruce and then ultimately the 3rd movie would have Batman/Bruce finally find a way to be useful in the light and dark But like I said with this angle you got a good rogues gallery to go thru. Wouldn't be surprised to see people like Professor Pig and Mad Hatter. Batman is not just chasing villains, he is going after high end criminals with murders and other heinous shit on their records which is what you can do with a lot of the characters

So basically in the next week, Matt Reeves is gonna be fired and this will be canned.

Hoping it does indeed stay that way. Sooooo prefer standalone continuities over these massive sprawling ones.

I'm fine with it standing on it's own. I'd actually prefer that because it gives DC more leeway to do different things without being bound to having, say, Shazam and Batman having to be in continuity with each other. I could just do without "realistic" takes on Batman, I'm over those. Is it too much to get a world where the likes of Freeze, Ivy, Clayface and venomed-up Bane can exist? You can have those things and still be all dark and serious. BTAS and the Arkham games managed it.

I like this. The Batman felt like a totally different "comicbook" movie. It felt more like a detective/crime film. I'd love a series of Batman films like this with the different bad guys Batman dealt with in the comics. Also, they don't all have to be 3 hours... LOL. I still haven't watched it a second time because of the 3 hour length.

I'm not saying you have to go full camp, but like....make a comic book movie!

The Batman felt more like it got the essence of what makes Batman the World's Greatest Detective than a lot of other Batman movies tbh. Hell it wore its Long Halloween inspiration on its sleeve. Say what you will about the quality of the movie itself, but accusing it of being an auteur project made by someone ashamed of making a comic book movie is just blatantly false.

So basically in the next week, Matt Reeves is gonna be fired and this will be canned. Doubt it. The Batman made lots of money. Joker made lots of money. Warner needs money. If they could manage it their movie lineup would look like my local comic stores DC order, 90% Batman. As long as standalone Batman films make money they will be fine.

Majorly LTTP, but I finally watched this movie and holey moley, what a movie.
Those I talked to who complained about the length time, I get that. But there is so much to love about this movie. Definitely looking forward to a sequel, but I’d be fine bypassing Joker.

The next movie should be about The Cluemaster and Magpie.

The next movie should be about The Cluemaster and Magpie. Would not be against a Cluemaster movie if we also get Stephanie Brown/The Spoiler in it. And Magpie too if they used her Beware the Batman look.
