I had no idea that this was in the works, especially when it follows the main canon, which the 2000 film was also a part of.

You know how you can tell a movie's going to bomb just by watching the trailer?
Yeah...

Had no idea this was coming, but I liked the 2000 one. Also, according to Wikipedia it's written by Kenya Barris of Blackish fame, so it'll probably be pretty funny.
Still haven't seen the original Shaft from the 70s though. Need to fix that someday.

It looks like it could be funny. It also could have the amusing parts in the trailer and the rest of it be awful.

So this is a sequel to Shaft, which itself was a sequel to another movie named Shaft.

Looks not terrible but unless this has a villan anywhere near the caliber of Jeffery Wright then this will be nothing more than okay at best.

*looks at preview image of trailer above* Ummm.............. ? EDIT: OH SHIT WAIT REALLY HA! ok, I like this. {Spoiler}Legit thought that was a reused image from the 2000 movie - which I've somehow never seen - and not that SLJ and Richard Roundtree were *in* this movie too. Very cool.

I mean. It’s probably a better direction than the 2000 flick (though since yesterday a lot are saying it’s not that bad and I haven’t seen it since) but it took me a minute or two to make sure it wasn’t just some joke/parody trailer.

But yeah I had no idea this was being made, guess it could be okay but people will watch

Wait, wasn't Samuel L Jackson's character the nephew of the original Shaft? In the trailer Junior called OG Shaft grandpa.

Wait, wasn't Samuel L Jackson's character the nephew of the original Shaft? In the trailer Junior called OG Shaft grandpa. He was the originals nephew. Said in the movie. I remember reading an interview before the movie that when John Singleton was going to do the movie it was going to be lower budget, rated R, and starring Don Cheadle as the original Shafts son. After it lefts Johns hands it went higher budget and needed a big star so they got SLJ. Who was too old to be Richard Rountrees son so they made him his nephew.

I enjoyed the original and its 2 sequels. I loved the 2000 one. Didn't even know this was being made, but count me in.

I may need to re-watch those two, as well as watch Shaft's Big Score and Shaft in Africa. I also just found out that there was a short-lived TV series. One thing that I will also note is that unlike last year's Superfly, this really does seem like a sequel, though I didn't mind the Superfly remake.

Think I just had a Mandela Effect...
I remember Isaac Hayes releasing an updated version of the Shaft theme for the 2000 movie. Turns out he didn’t..

I bought all the Shaft movies a long time ago on DVD. I think I found them in the Wal-Mart discount bin. I haven't watched any of them though. I don't know why I even bought if I didn't plan to watch them. I have a lot of movies like that I guess.
