Can the XFL try to buy some of the AAF's assets before their own launch? That would be ironic considering that Charlie Ebersol offered Vince McMahon $50 million for the XFL assets. Now I’m imagining an announcement similar to what we heard on March 26, 2001: “Imagine that! Me, Vince McMahon, here on the Alliance of American Football’s website! How in the world did that happen? I’ll tell you. You see, I went out and bought my competition. I now own the Alliance of American Football. The AAF’s fate—its very fate—is in MY hands.”

Man, if there is ever a documentary on this, I think Tom Dundun will be blamed for it's death, saying he only wanted the gambling app, not the league. Well, that would be a dumb narrative, given that the league would have been dead after Week 1 if not for Dundon.

I look forward to Vince somehow working in some sort of shot at the AAF into WWE programming sometime this week.

Is the AAF a bigger failure than the XFL? At least the XFL played its full season. The AAF may be the biggest fiasco in football history. The XFL lasted a season. The UFL made it through three-and-a-half seasons. The USFL had three seasons. The World Football League was almost through its second season when it folded. The AAF, meanwhile, lasted eight weeks.

Can the XFL try to buy some of the AAF's assets before their own launch? Is there even anything worth buying? And boy did Ebersol f*** this up by rushing to beat Vince in launching. This absolutely need 2 full years of prep work, and they needed a proper game plan. Hoping you can work out a deal with the NFL is not a game plan. Vince has got an uphill battle, but in today’s TV market it’s feasible if he plays his cards right. Certainly a much more realistic chance then in 2001. Pick a hook to separate you from NFL. Develop an audience, and develop team loyalty over focusing on Star players because you’re gonna have a lot of turnover. Let your people run the company, be a money man. And absolutely, DO NOT GET INTO A PISSING CONTEST WITH THE NFL!!!!! Also, absolutely ZERO crossover with WWE. You can run commercials during Raw, but don’t have Roman on Raw pimping it. And don’t have WWE talent on XFL broadcast, even someone who’s as knowledgeable as JR will damage your credibility with football fans and sports media.

Doesn't stop people from blaming Dixie Carter for Impact's woes despite that she did kind of save them by buying them.

Disagree entirely, it takes decades to get sports brand loyalty, throw all your money at Tim Tebow and Colin Kapernick and make sure the refs are on the dole for their teams. That is how you build the league

Can the XFL try to buy some of the AAF's assets before their own launch? What's there to buy? All the players and coaches will be available if there no league. So the XFL can pick and choice the talented players and coaches and build from that if they wanted too. From a lot of tweets I've read. It sounds like that when the league was launched, Charlie and co didn't really have the funds to fund the league from the start. Tom was the big investor with his own agenda. So yes the AAF did launch to soon before the funds was in place. The XFL at less has that in place and the XFL isn't relying on the NFLPA for help and loan in talent. If the XFL gets going and does well, I can see the AAF markets they pick getting teams. I would make sense because those where good markets to go in for a league like this, I feel bad for the personal and the fans who got screwed from this. Hopefully the XFL can right the wrong in the spring league efforts and give us what we want out of the league.

Disagree entirely, it takes decades to get sports brand loyalty, throw all your money at Tim Tebow and Colin Kapernick and make sure the refs are on the dole for their teams. That is how you build the league I doubt that Colin Kapernick would commit long term to the XFL. At best, he signs a 1 year deal, and hopes to dominate as a giant f*** you to the NFL, before re-joining the league. But odds are, now that the lawsuit is over someone gives him another shot. If you can get some star talent to commit long term, then absolutely grab them. But odds are 95% of the people playing are trying to get in or back in to the NFL. These guys aren’t gonna want a deal longer then a year or two unless they KNOW they have no chance in the NFL, or XFL ponies up a lot of cash and f***s the whole pay scale before a single snap. They have virtually no chance of retaining stars, so I feel the game is gonna have to be sold on on-field quality and team loyalty. Which, is what makes their city choices very odd, as I think they’re all NFL markets which is a massive mistake in my eyes.

San Antonio and Birmingham I thought where good ones too Market wise.

I really wanted this to work. I had my doubts like many at the beginning, but I really wanted the league to work.
I follow indoor football and arena football. That is my fill of football between February and July. I also follow the CFL a bit. But I was hoping an outdoor league during the NFL Offseason would work as well.
This one felt like it might work. It felt like they had their ducks in a row. And yet again, it was not to be.
Ladies, gentlemen, and to all the others in the technicolor rainbow in between, you know the drill:

Good god, that's sad. I could never understand why these upstart leagues play in stadiums that hold 50-70k people. The best thing MLS ever did was build stadiums that held 20k people or so, unless you're like Seattle who can fill up a 60k seat stadium. Being in a 75% capacity 20k stadium is so much better than a 25% capacity 60k stadium. That being said that's really sad...even my high school bleachers could hold more people than is needed there.

Did the league launch too early, or was it always doomed to fail? From everything it sounds like Charlie Ebersole wanted to beat Vince in launching a new league... but also sounds like he and Bill Polian lied about the finances. For as much crap as Vince had gotten and likely will continue to get for the new XFL he actually is taking his time and actually has some smart people running the league
