I know a lot of people here thought this movie looked really bad but apparently it's been getting an overwhelmingly positive reception from critics so far which is pretty cool. It's currently sitting at a 90% on RT. I had a feeling it was probably going to be at least decent since Stephen Merchant is involved but the trailers are pretty annoying and WWE's previous track record of films have been pretty bad.

I mean, the cast is decent - established names like Lena Headey and Nick Frost, and rising talents like Florence Pugh and Jack Lowden. I agree that the trailer makes it look lame, but the lamest part of it is The Rock's bit.
I don't know when I'll ever get around to watching it, but I'd like to see what Zelina Vega does as AJ Lee, even if she only appears in that one scene, where Paige wins the title.

It just looks really cheap. Like, Showtime original movie of the early 2000s cheap.

Two things annoy me about it,
- all of The Rock’s make believe involvement in her story - Them going to the effort of having Zelina Vega go to the ring with AJ Lee’s music and AJ Lee’s titantron and cut AJ Lee’s promo... dressed as Zelina Vega. Like would it of broke to the bank to throw her some jean shorts, some chucks and an old AJ shirt?

Stephen Merchant's no fly-by-night joke either, as is often the case with a lot of WWE films. He's a genuinely good director and writer who co-created The Office (UK) with Ricky Gervais and also won BAFTA's for it. He also won an Emmy for The Office (US) as executive producer.

I’m happy for Paige. She’s been through some shit. So it’s cool good things are happening for her.
I also plan to make many Hutch Morgan references in the future.

I don't think it looks too bad. I'll probably watch it when it's available for streaming. I'm a wrestling fan, a Paige fan, I think Zelina Vega's hot, and I usually like The Rock's movies. It's right up my alley.

Stephen Merchant is very talented, and the Rock was never going to put his name to any old piece of crap. It'd be nice to see something wrestling-related like this do well in the mainstream outside of the usual tired old tropes.

I’m happy for Paige. She’s been through some shit. So it’s cool good things are happening for her. It seems she's also become good friends with Florence Pugh, who plays her in the movie. So that's a nice little turn of events.

A 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes isn't necessarily the same thing as getting great reviews. It just means that 90% of the critics featured on RT gave the movie a positive review. However, exactly what qualifies as a "positive review" is open to interpretation. If a critic says, "The movie is decent. Check it out if you have nothing better to do," that could count as a positive review. So, in theory, if 90% of the critics give a movie a barely passing review, and 10% of the critics give it a negative review, the movie receives a 90% "fresh" rating.

And Graham Coxon from Blur apparently did the soundtrack. So it's one hell of a Britfest. I have to say, if you told me growing up in the Midlands watching wrestling and Spaced on TV that one day there'd be a movie with both The Rock and Nick Frost in it, about a female wrestler's life story, I wouldn't have believed you.

Great for Paige, Coxan and Merchant. I've followed Paige and her Mother's career for years so happy for both of them. The soundtracks being by Coxan from Blur is really cool too. And Merchant is by far the most likeable of him and Gervais and as the years go on it looks more and more like he was the creative genius behind their success.
