If they could get the guy who for years created so many iconic themes in WWE, he could create the same types of songs that would be synonymous with AEW and it’s stars. The fact that he was drummed out of the company after nearly 30 years might give him some incentive to give a boost to an up and coming competitor.

Honestly I kind of suspect he's signed on already. He's back in the industry in a sense as he's doing stuff with Conrad for Starrcast.

It's pretty much independent of AEW as Undertaker will be participating even though he's under WWE contract, so Johnston taking part isn't really a sign of anything right now.

It's pretty much Conrad's deal and independent of AEW as Undertaker will be participating even though he's under WWE contract. I understand the difference and the independence, thanks, but that doesn't negate Jim left WWE in a way he wasn't happy about and that he has two degrees of seperation from the newly formed AEW. There's plenty of room to speculate that they may end up in a working relationship.

I'd be down, not every tune was a complete classic but generally speaking his themes were distinct and even if you didn't like the song or think it necessarily completely gelled with the wrestler it was given to, you knew who was coming out because of it. It had an identity. Something that's lacking in WWE as a whole outside of a few isolated cases and from many promotions that have to use their own music.
He doesn't seem to have really lost a step either in terms of skill, so why not? It would just add further to what could set AEW apart if Jim's motivated and ready to put in the work.

Jim Johnston's made some of the most iconic wrestling themes in this hemisphere. I wouldn't mind him doing some work with AEW for themes though I'd also like to see them develop their own sound as well.
Really, just as long as they don't use Jimmy Hart or Dale Oliver.

By his own admission, he wasn't really much of a wrestling fan the whole time he worked for WWE and seemed to be a little bit sad at worst at how he left.

I'd love if they did. CFO$ or however their name is spelled does tend to turn out some good themes, but that doesn't change that Jim got muscled out. If he's got anything left in the tank, I'd love for him to get to demonstrate that. Jim Johnston's made some of the most iconic wrestling themes in this hemisphere. I wouldn't mind him doing some work with AEW for themes though I'd also like to see them develop their own sound as well. Really, just as long as they don't use Jimmy Hart or Dale Oliver. I didn't mind Hart in small doses, but yeah, Oliver had like maybe 3-4 good themes in them and a bunch of trash.

I wouldn't have an issue, but I wouldn't mind finding someone new and could be a longer term creator.

Yeah, I don't know. Seems like AEW could probably forge a new path, as tempting as it would be to hire the guy who brought us the soundtrack to Irwin R. Schyster.

If he's got anything left in the tank, I'd love for him to get to demonstrate that. That's the key part for me. The quality of his output in the last ten years was very inconsistent, and I'm struggling to think of many really good themes he was the creator of in that time, but how much of that is on Jim and how much is on whoever Jim was submitting themes to for approval is open to debate.

Wouldn't mind it, but I would think the Bucks are giving their dad a job as music creator before they hire anyone else. He did the All In theme.

Jim basically freelances now to my understanding, you go to him for a theme, he makes it, you can use it, he asks his fee
I know that's what PCO did anyway

Why? It's not like he's actually talented or anything, if he was he wouldn't have been working for WWE. The themes they have now are mostly fine with a few good songs and a lot of shlock, which is coincidentally the same spread JJ had over his whole career.

Most of AEW best themes are ones that aren’t done by the in house guy. The in house stuff outside of a few exceptions (Jurassic express) kinda generic even after two years, I can’t figure out who’s coming out when the music hits.
Not like the enterance themes are easy to hear with their sound mixing, so I’m not sure why they would go with Johnston.
Impact doesn’t use dale Oliver much anymore most of their stuff is royality free production music. But who’s ever in charge of helping talent picked a theme needs a raise. A lot of the music isn’t perfect but you know who the hell is coming out and it fits their character.

Man I can't agree, I've gotten so used to even hearing certain DARK themes that I associate them immediate with a wrestler...

They should commission themes as required. Sammy needs something more Spanish god influenced, flamenco intro or whatever.

I'm not sure which songs Mickey Rukus has done, but I love the songs for Pretty Peter Avalon, Nyla Rose, Penelope Ford, Hybrid2, Varsity Blondes and Diamante.

When they bring in a WWE legend from his era of wrestling as a recurring character, getting him ti do them an all new theme would be a nice touch.
