Nah, Jim was pretty mediocre by the end imo. Rukus does a good job as is and has actually gotten better since he started.

Honestly I think TK should use some of his money to buy some songs. A lot of wrestlers need those real life songs and not generic instrumental themes

If he's got anything left in the tank, I'd love for him to get to demonstrate that. That's the key part for me. The quality of his output in the last ten years was very inconsistent, and I'm struggling to think of many really good themes he was the creator of in that time, but how much of that is on Jim and how much is on whoever Jim was submitting themes to for approval is open to debate. Honestly you're going to have a very rough time finding any songs credited to him in that period of time, two reasons being CFO$ being responsible for talent debuting in NXT from 2012 forward (effectively making music for ALL new WWE talent until his departure in 2017), and the fact that the WWE have been retroactively going back into music he's contributed to and making just enough changes to credit WWE Music Group over any single person because they're vindictive when it comes to things like this for whatever reason (same reason why they blackball CFO$ today). Case in point, I know for a fact he contributed to the arrangements for 'Flight of the Valkyries' but they changed it just enough and removed his version entirely so unless you actively search for the combination you wouldn't know for sure if he had worked on it or not. I still think Baron Corbin's theme (the last song he was legit credited for prior to his departure) is one of the best on the roster. ***** As for the original question of should AEW hire Johnston, I say absolutely. People tend to forget that just because Johnston had his hand in numerous themes in the WWE, it did not mean he was the EXCLUSIVE writer for all theme songs for the company. Plenty of third-party contributors, cover artists, and even other talent (ie Oliver, Hart, etc.) made music for the company as well. If anything, if Johnston is willing to head the group responsible for at least acquiring music I'd say he'd be a valuable asset to the company, ESPECIALLY with his history and experience in matching stars with their music. Sure, he may not be completely "with it" in terms of modern cultural significance, but the man's smart enough to consult the talent themselves as far as what they want their songs to sound like. Johnston always crafted the music with the talent in mind, whereas CFO$ and def rebel seems to be more inclined to churn out songs and then matching the talent after the fact (see: Nakamura being the original owner of 'Glorious'). Much like other older WWE talent signing with AEW in a purely mentor role, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone more qualified for this particular field than Johnston.

I'm not sure which songs Mickey Rukus has done, but I love the songs for Pretty Peter Avalon, Nyla Rose, Penelope Ford, Hybrid2, Varsity Blondes and Diamante. I think all of the ones on the AEW Bandcamp are his unless noted otherwise (some with a featured vocalist or such), and all of those are up there.
