The main one I can think of is a local Godfathers because one time delivery wait times were ridiculous so my dad went to pick our order up and said he saw cockroaches and would never order there again.

The only thing I could remember was seeing a freaking rat skitter along in a KFC branch here. I was in line, and moment I saw that I turned 180 degrees and marched on to a nearby convenience store in the vicinity and bought fried siomai and chicken there.
Honestly, the chicken of that convenience store is much better than KFC's vaguely soggy ones.

Got another story... new chain restaurant announces that it's opening locally, looking for kitchen staff. A friend who is working in the kitchen cooking in another restaurant applies for a job and is brought in with what would be a full kitchen of staff, shown what the dishes are, how things are done, etc., etc..
Restaurant opens and none of the local guys who were brought in and trained were told.
My friend goes to the manager and asks WTF? He was told that the locals were only brought in 'just in case any of the REAL staff couldn't show up'.
My friend quit his previous job so that he could work there and finds out that he was just a backup? I haven't set foot in that building and it's been open three years.

I stopped supporting Hollywood from all the controversy, don't support the BBC after jimmy savile Do you just watch old indie/foreign movies then or something? Or do you still watch all the movies, but sit there quietly condemning them? I don't really watch many movies anymore I go to the odd one but really I watch as little as possible

On The Border: Ate there in 2005, next day was very sick, throwing up and diarreha. Will never eat there. Though Gillette isn't a place, I stopped buying them over a year ago cause their blades are too much. I buy a 4 pack of barbosal ultra 3 disposales for like 5 bucks, just as good as Mach 3. Have you looked into Dorco at all? They're the providers for Dollar Shave Club, and you can get their blades for pretty darn cheap- we're talking ~$7 for a 4 pack without any sort of discount (and the discounts are readily available most of the year which drives the prices down further). I need to cause I think they do the blades for the razors I have now as well.

Hollywood and the BBC aren't blameless, but the vast majority of people involved aren't monsters or involved in what has happened the way Vince is, given his micromanagement of everything..

I went to Olive Garden twice and both times the food was terrible because it's all over-cooked pasta that's kept warm too long. I call it pseudo-Italian.

I agree with what your saying but we're getting into a discussion of how deep are morals go, like if you didn't wanna support anyone who's corrupt you'd probably be living in a box in the street.I'm gonna leave it here as I don't want to de rail the thread.

I HATE "fast food" Italian places. I have yet to try one that doesn't cook their pasta in bulk, allowing it to sit and harden, plus the not made-to-order method leads to congealed sauce, etc. It really just kills the experience.

I love great Italian food from an authentic restaurant that's made with some kind of care.

The other day I ordered a pizza from a local place. I'm vegetarian. I ordered a pizza with mushrooms and green peppers on it.
What I received, was a pizza that looked it just had mushrooms on it. Oh well, I thought, mistakes happen. It was more cheese than pizza, but hey. It was cheap, and melted cheese is good.
Took a bite.
There was pepperoni on it.
I looked at the order in my inbox, and the menu, and it said 'green peppers' on it. A lot of pizza places are run by immigrants, so I thought there might have been a language barrier thing, but pepperoni was elsewhere on the toppings list. It wasn't even just 'peppers' or even 'red peppers,' which I could have understood more.
I didn't puke, but uh, I kinda wish I did?

If a customer ever mentioned their vegetarianism, veganism, allergies to me my process was to make a GIGANTIC note of it under their phone # stored in the system, letting them know that it would be, and also a suggestion that they should order under that number unless they were absolutely unable to do so. You can always make notes and add a secondary number to contact if need be, just give that as the primary. When I was able, I always put myself at the cut table so I could catch something like that before it went out(I also happened to be a Grade A rockstar at that station and...not the best at slapping the dough.) I honestly think a lot of the issues against pizza places described in this thread stem from the fact that a lot of the stores hire young, inexperienced high school girls to run the front and answer phones. Turnover is high and most of them are barely interested in the job, so that initial point of contact can screw EVERYTHING up in just a minute or two. The practice is so widely used, though, because it's cheap labor, it's a welcome voice on the phone, and a welcome presence to customers as they walk in.

High school-aged people hired for these jobs isn't really the case in the UK outside of chains like Pizza Hut or Domino's in my far-too-extensive experience. I'd say the differences in US practices vs. other places is pretty well known, especially the tipping and low/normal wage part. I've worked both chain and non-chain, independent places and in all but one this was the norm. The one exception is a local/regional chain that uses a central call center to take the orders and then send them to the locations. I may have been oversimplifying as well, because the group I mentioned were generally only there for between 2-4 hours and 4 days a week. I'm also definitely not trying to lay the blame totally on that issue as training and things like performance reviews and quality control start from the top down. I dunno, as a long-time restaurant person whose experience is in pizza specifically, it's frustrating to see a lot of these complaints and whatnot. I'm not even sure why as I haven't worked food service in a few years now.

There was a pizza place in town that also served as the kitchen for the bar next door.
We ordered a pizza at work from them. The ad says to mention it and your medium can be a large for free.
It was the worst pizza ever. Burnt to shit. They clearly just tossed the medium ingredients on a large pizza.
It got so bad, the bar actually just took a “Do what you want” approach to food. Order another place for delivery to your table. Whatever.
Eventually the pizza place went out of business and the bar took over the kitchen themselves. It’s much better.

There was a neighborhood bar near where I used to live several years ago which I would go to fairly often. One week, I see that they have advertised that they’re having a karaoke night on Wednesdays starting at 9:00. I love me some karaoke, so I go, eager to have some drinks and sing some songs, but not stay out too late, since it’s a work night.
So I go at 9:00...and it turns out that karaoke is being postponed because the manager wanted to watch American Horror Story and play it on the bar’s TV for everyone to watch. The whole thing that was advertised, the whole reason I was there, delayed over a TV show. Karaoke didn’t actually start until 10:30, and by that time, it was too late and I had to go to work in the morning, so I had no choice but to go home.
I lost a lot of respect for that place, and hardly ever went back again.

It's long since closed, but Circuit City. Brought a computer there to be looked at. Was promised by the guy at the tech desk that I could have it back that same night. Wandered around for a few hours, came back to the tech desk to see if anything had been done. Turns out there'd been a shift change and the guy who'd taken over hadn't even started running diagnostics and apparently hadn't even been told what the other guy said about getting the computer back the same night. My mother got pissed. Guy at desk called a rather belligerent manager. Argument ensued. Got the computer back. Went all the way from the tech desk at the back of the store to the customer service desk at the front of the store for a refund, with my mother complaining at the top of her lungs. Got the refund and left there for good.
I went down to PetSmart for a hamster cage years back. Got figuratively passed around between several different people who weren't even willing to check if that particular cage was in the store. Ended up ordering it off their website and complained about the poor service. Store manager called but I didn't call back. I was pretty much done with them. Only been back once since then, otherwise I avoid that place like the plague. The cage arrived with a corner nearly broken off, go figure there.
