And one of the main events was Orton vs. Styles. Maybe the first match up between then.
The crowd hates AJ, and loved Randy. There were several chants of "RKO", "Orton, Orton, Orton" and "We Want Mania". During the match, AJ would hold out his hands as if he he was frustrated with the crowd. Orton would play favorably to the crowd.
It was also in Minneapolis, which is kind of a big market for them. I just think they may flip flop before WrestleMania based off of what I had seen tonight.

Ehh...Orton is super popular in the Midwest. I feel like if they did the same match in like Greensboro or Atlanta, AJ would have been the face. Both those guys are kind of beyond the traditional face/heel disposition.

Interesting. I don't really want face Orton, but AJ's so damn stale right now and he's much better as a heel.
Did Orton twerk at all?

The Midwest is where Orton's from so yeah, they'd be behind him. Mind you the WM crowd will probably be behind Styles more.
It's like Reigns in the South. Even during his most hated days Reigns always went to the South and had a good amount of places cheer him.

Another note, Mustafa Ali returned and had a barn burner with D Bry.
But yeah, Orton was the face and AJ played the heel.

I was at the same show, and it might have been based on where you were sitting it seemed more one-sided than it was. While there were a lot of Orton supporters, AJ had a sizable amount of cheers, especially during those closing sequences.

I was on the floor facing the ramp. Basically behind where the announce tables would be.

Glad to hear Ali's healthy again. How was the Asuka/Charlotte main event? As an aside, I know they've had some bad luck with injuries on the Raw side, but SDL house shows feel much more stacked in terms of starpower and wrestling.

They actually had a match on SmackDown a couple of years ago. It was pretty good.

Yeah, Orton has been known to phone it in and AJ hasn't exactly been killing it lately, but it is WM and both have excellent chemistry from what we have seen.

It's not too uncommon for wrestlers to play around with the face/heel thing on house shows, especially with vets like Orton and Styles, when they're not getting the originally-intended response from the audience.

I remember when I went to a house show at the Izod Center at the Meadowlands and it was a proto-New Day Kofi and Big E with Xavier Woods as their very serious lawyer-ish manager and they were working face against Los Matadores who were working heel.

I always forget that Xavier didn't come up to the main roster as a member of New Day. I can't say I blame myself for forgetting all about that weird ass angle with him, Truth and Tons of Funk.

Yeah, he promos to them after losing a match and he’s like “Join me and we’ll set their shit straight”. They have one TV match as a group as kind of intense, serious tweeners, then they go back to singles for a while (which includes that one Rollins v Kingston match that got brought up recently when Vince gave Rollins a serve backstage for not squashing him hard enough), then they’re all taken off TV for the original happy-clappy New Day that was dead in the butt for like four months before they turned heel. Oh, and don’t forget how much we all popped for it because we spent years fantasy booking the “New Nation” any time more than two African-Americans were seen together... officialfan.proboards.com/thread/504245/official-new-nation-thread

Hah Peoria is supposed to get Orton vs AJ on the 17th, I expect the same reaction. He made his official TV debut in Peoria at my first TV taping in 2002.
