The years he was married to Kimberly was the best time to be DDP.
Because she was hot.

Everyone seems to forget that this wasn't cool 1997 long hair jeans Nirvana rip-off DDP. This was a 45 year old man who was winding down and lost a lot of the elements that made him cool over the years.

Yes. 2001. They just booked him horrendously and Bruce Pritchards justification for it is an absolute joke. True the angle was horrible but there were other reasons why Page failed and most of it was his fault. He just couldn’t go anymore. Unfortunately age caught up to him and he couldn’t perform the more physical wwe style, he had problems with constantly getting up and bumping, feeding for the comebacks. If we got back then a healthy and younger DDP? He would’ve been wwe champion inside a year.

I think DDP could have still been huge if they had debuted him a few months later when The Alliance was in full swing and made a really big deal about whether or not he was with them. Like, just have him be throwing Diamond Cutters left and right on dudes from all sides and play it like he's the one guy that just doesn't give a f*** about anything happening even though both sides are dying to get him.

That'd be nice. Could spare us some of the weird-ass writing of Austin and Angle, if nothing else.

If they'd had the stalker angle be simply "I was doin it to get in your head Dead Man" and then then have a normal feud he'd honestly have been fine. They dicked him around from the get go. But he always could have fit if they'd given even a bit of effort Yeah this. He got a massive pop when he revealed himself and I think if they'd played it that way, with some straight matches it would have worked well, even if Undertaker won the feud.

I think they could've definitely done something with him, but I would've drafted Bradshaw to SmackDown with Faarooq and DDP to RAW in 2002. Hall and Nash come out after a DDP match on RAW and hand him an nWo shirt, but DDP ends up taking them out, exactly the way it had happened five years earlier. This eventually leads to an alliance forming between Austin and DDP (instead of Austin and Bradshaw) against the nWo. Who knows maybe DDP doesn't get hurt on RAW. Shit this would have been great. Page & Austin vs The Outsiders would be a great match on pure spectacle alone. Man I'm sad this didn't happen now.

Yeah if WCW fired him instead of Austin he could’ve played Stone Cold.
“That’s the bottom line JACK!” “I’m talking to you, Vince McScum.”
JR: By god. When you hear the diamond shattering you know what that means! King: Yeah. This punk is gonna self help there way to a bottle of cheap champagne.

He had the poor misfortune to be put with 2001 Undertaker.
From the Summer of 1998 to his heel turn after Survivor Series 2001 Taker seemed intent to put nobody bar Stone Cold over. He was every bit as bad as HHH at his burial worst.
His matches and feuds from then sucked.

Ill never understand why they didnt do a Rock vs DDP/ Peoples Champion vs Peoples Champion feud, the story writes itself (Who is the real Peoples Champion?) Talk about flushing money down the toilet but thats the Invasion in a nutshell.

This was a 45 year old man who was winding down and lost a lot of the elements that made him cool over the years. He was still pretty well known, pretty over considering latter day WCW, and they could have gotten one or two decent storylines out of him. The best time to bring him in probably would have been right after the invasion, and have him giving the diamond cutter to Vince right after the Flair promo.

I almost feel like DDP was DOA simply because he was a WCW A-lister during the MNW. DDP should have been a VIP, but was SOL after the InVasion. However, he was A-OK when a lot of WCW guys went MIA. The two of you making me want to watch Bojack Horseman again

Goes without saying he was misused during the InVasion. But a lot of that was just due to the general craziness of the time, and perhaps if he had made the jump beforehand, as he evidently had contemplated more than once, things might have been much different for him. For my part, I actually look back and think that if Vince could have pulled it off, I could totally have seen DDP make the jump to be one of Me McMahon’s chosen champions to try to wrest the title from Austin. Particularly if they had done this right after the Halloween Havkc match with Gok erg, when DDP was at his hottest as a main event star, it would have been an utterly jaw dropping coup to see him suddenly appear on RAW to attack Austin. Don’t know they it would have extended his career by all that much, but arguably he could have achieved more had he made that jump sooner. He got over a completely new gimmick towards the end. I mean he was still being misused terribly, but it takes a lot of talent to take on a new gimmick and make it work.

If Vince could have put aside any pettiness that he got over 100% as a WCW guy & would have let him be a top babyface, the audience would have accepted him at any point. The beauty of DDP is that he really didn’t need much of a gimmick. He was a guy who busted ass to get into a good position and ended up completely getting over. You don’t need much beyond that, no matter what company you’re in.
