Please call it the Greamcast if it's a whole gaming console.

My first time hearing about this, but yeah, sounds like they want their own Steam with wider connectivity and options with their existing line of products/services. If anyone could take a chance like this, it’s Google.

My money is on this getting 2 years into development before Google gets bored of it/can't make it work right and abandons it.

Being able to play some of the more involved games on Google Play on a PC platform without needing an expensive phone or an iffy Android emulator would be pretty damn nice, if you ask me.

Well, this sounds like something I'll forget about in 5 minutes and never have reason to think about again.

Does Stadia have any grander meaning or play on words I am missing, or does it sound like an allergy medication for no particular reason?

Does Stadia have any grander meaning or play on words I am missing, or does it sound like an allergy medication for no particular reason? It's a possible plural of "Stadium", meaning a place where people congregate to play and or watch others play. That's the gist I take from it.

I enjoyed Project Stream for what it was, much like how I'm sure I'd like Stadia for what it is. Then I remember they're sunsetting Inbox at the end of the month and resign to the fact that all of the promise in the world isn't going to lead up to anything other than yet another one of their abandoned messes here.

Saw the keynote, I've got some opinions.
For one I don't like the fact that this is all under one corporation. Yeah it's done with Netflix, yeah it's done with Apple Music/Spotify/Tidal, yeah but still this is gaming and I take that more seriously. We're spending 60 bucks on a brand new game these days and that's to own. You mean to tell me that if this is all under one umbrella all it takes is one shutdown and it's not even mine anymore? Everything other than the controller? That worries me. We're already reaching the point in society where it seems every other day something else could enter the "hey you don't own this" model so now for it to happen so quickly with gaming, I don't rock with it. No cheats but mind you that's no modding as well. That's a lot under the hands of a company. It's just, nah man. Nah. I'm just not with that. If it were at least a box I'd be more secure, a little bit but nah.
Secondly we play for the games and besides Doom Eternal, and that's a multi-platform title, we didn't see any games that interested me. We gotta get more info on that.
Next...lag. I've been reading reports on Twitter about this thing and man it's not looking good.
Yall know how important this stuff is to gaming.
Next the graphics and power. Yeah, we get that but am I the only one worried about ISPs and this thing? Datacaps, some areas not having great internet, just, there's a lot of variables that come into play here that makes things shaky. At least with today's standard console model hey you've got a box, you're good but this? Nah man.
And lastly, they didn't mention a thing about price.
Overall, I'm not vibing with this thus far. It's just not for me. For streamers, for the Youtube community it's great but for me? Nah, it's not cool.

I'm guessing you have to have it hooked to the internet at all times. Wasn't the XBOX ONE going to do this and they got so much bad publicity that they had to do a 180? Not to mention your inputs depend on how strong your online connection is. Pretty much if you are not part of the very few that has something like Google Fiber, there's no way you can play this thing effectively.
also the "no hacking no cheats" thing is BS. People will find a way.

At least for a few years, stuff like this is DOA. Demands too much on the current internet capabilities, doesn't offer any actual advantages to consumers over other versions with physical or digital products and there's nothing remotely exclusive to it to gather enthusiasts. Aside from tech geeks, no one will be talking about this after a couple of weeks of launch.

It offers convenience. For the majority of users, convenience will win out over quality. The general audience does not give a shit about ownership, mods, archivism or any of that stuff. "Click and play straight away" is going to be the mantra, and the general audience will likely care about that.
This shit doesn't need to be perfect. Hell, it barely even needs to be great. It just needs to be "good enough". The success or failure of this projects depends purely on Google being able to quantify that "good enough" as accurately as possible.
I do not believe that the US (the assumed primary market of this) has the infrastructure necessary for Google's vision to actually move onto the consumer. That is the fundamental problem at heart. Even if it works in other countries brilliantly, the US market will dominate the narrative.
To me as a consumer, the primary benefit of cloud gaming would be risk-free trials and demos. The ability to browse a game store, and try a full game immediately with no download or install would be fantastic. But that is not a sustainable business model in of itself.

They basically lost me with that Founders Edition and being able to get the first crack at getting screen names. That's some dirty pool, Google.

I love the idea of Stadia and will probably try it out, but man, I am not sold on fighting games on a cloud gaming service. Any lag and you are f***ed.

Not a big FPS or MMO player, and the other games they hinted at are available on consoles I already own. They needed to give me a reason to switch over (like a savings) and give this a chance.
